The new project by Daron and John of System Of A Down has their first single go for adds next week, and the album comes out on July 29th. Haven't heard it yet, but they say that the album as a whole will be more alternative rock than SOAD.

I think it's alright, just very straightforward. Surprised that it's that less progressive than SOAD.

This song has actually grown on me but that's not surprising since this is a sound I'm more likely to get into. I'm probably one of the only people on the alt board who isnt much of a SOAD fan. I like the odd song here or there but have never gotten much into them.

^^ I'm fascinated that your 2-5 songs are more or less indie bands, while your #1 is a Bullet for My Valentine song.

what can I say, my tastes are all over the map.
and now its updated for this week...
If you ever looked at my entire chart, you'd see alot of different stuff, but that's the fun of making a personal chart, its totally catered to your own taste.

So I've listened to half of this album now, and what bothers me about it is the exact same thing that bothers me about Serj Tankian's album, and really solo albums in general, and that's the fact that it's not really all that different from System. Sure, there are a couple of things done on here that haven't been done on a System album, but it's not really like it's a direction that couldn't have been taken anyway. Same thing with Serj. It feels like if I spliced those two albums together, I'd just wind up with another two System albums, albeit with a lot more Daron than even Mezmerize and Hypnotize had.
It's the same thing with most solo albums, really. I mean for example, I don't like Puscifer that much, but I really respect Maynard for doing something dramatically different from his usual stuff. Even when Serj did Serart, that was a very intricate piece of work and very different from what was expected of him, although I understand that was a one-time project. But most solo albums really just feel like a way for a vocalist to put out more music without having to go to the trouble of working with the other band members. I don't really see the point in it.

This doesn't sound much at all like System Of A Down. And if we have to compare it to Tankian (why?), this beats either single I've heard from him in my opinion.

Comparing Scars to Serj isn't really any different than comparing either of the two to SOAD, which you did yourself. We're talking obvious avenues for comparison here.

I never liked this guy. Some SOAD songs from the 2005 albums would've been better without his vocals.

I can't remember if I said this back then, but I feel Daron's vocals weave in with Serj's in the same natural way that Layne's and Jerry's intertwined in Alice in Chains.

Being in a band myself, I feel like that's an unfair thing to say. Bands often go on a hiatus of sorts to pursue side projects because enthusiasm for the main project is dwindling at the moment and tensions between band members are too high. If they try to come back when they don't feel ready, we'll get a shitty album out of it. When they feel like getting back together, they'll have enough of an itch that they'll make some music that feels authentic and urgent like a System record should.
