Thanks for the correction! For some reason, I forgot about that when I posted the chart so I'll get to that.

That's because when you include recurrents, none of them were in the top 50. In the Top 100 w/ Recurrents thread, they're all still there. "Purging" to my understanding, doesn't mean they're removed from the chart altogether, it's just a forced early recurrency (or before 20 weeks in the top 40 has passed). David and Shontelle would have gone recurrent this week anyway, Brandy and FOB fell a couple weeks shy.

Yeah, after looking at these charts, I've decided I was a bit off before about recurrency. A bit confusing because BDS treats recurrents a little different and has published recurrent-only charts.

Mediabase simply shuffles songs around. Brandy and FOB fell below 40 before 20 weeks was up, mediabase decided to purge them and so they now rank only when the chart includes recurrents even though they're younger than 20 weeks. David and Shontelle are 20 weeks old so whether they were at 21 or 45 they would be ranked only when the chart includes recurrents. They're all recurrents.

There are exceptions, though, and songs with 20+ weeks can keep charting as current\

There is supposedly no automatic Recurrency on songs that are below #40 and did not stay that minimum number of weeks to "earn" recurrency (which in a way is a status, too)

But they made the songs that disappeared this week recurrent. They chart as recurrents on Mediabase so it doesn't really mean much to say their "purged" instead of recurrent since they're charting exactly the same.

Well, for some people there is some difference between Bartender Song and Disturbia when they no longer appear in the chart. The first one didn't have enough longevity in the chart and was removed off it, whereas the second stayed for more than 6 months and earned recurrency.
As I said in my first comment, it is just a matter of details and extra precision, at least the way I see it.

But Mediabase considered both recurrents. The "fairness" factor comes in when The Bartender Song falls off the Top 100 w/recurrents quicker than Disturbia simply because it has less spins. Then, of course, you have songs like T-Shirt and Crush that would have been removed this week no matter where they were (under 20) because they were both at 20 weeks. You're going to call them "purged" instead of recurrent because one was at 41 and the other was at 45 when they were removed, even though they are currently both charting in the top 100 w/recurrents?

Yes, I think I didn't get quite right the situation with Crush and T-Shirt.
Besides, the discussion of "going recurrent", "earning recurrency" is one that is usually discussed in Mediabase.
During Britney's Blackout era, we were all rooting for Britney to "go recurrent" with Piece of Me, since that was a BIG achievement, for example. Of course, we were not talking about the time when it was going to be "removed" from the chart, but the time when it had spent full 20 weeks.
In addition, soundscene, you know that we were discussing that on the Crush thread, too, when we asked if it was going to go recurrent. Of course, that didn't mean if it was going to be removed or not, but more the fact that it spent 20 weeks in the Top40.
I get the feeling that you think I am saying something against David Archuleta to minimize Crush's success but do not worry because that was not my intention.

I was just illustrating the point that"going recurrent" or "achieving recurrency" is an achievement when discussing chart facts.

We can turn the page now, I guess, right?

Notable observations:
Kelly Clarkson's "My Life Would Suck Without You" jumps in at #46, subsequently removing Eminem's "Crack a Bottle" out of the Top 50 just one day after its first appearance

A very wide gap between the top half and the bottom half of the Top 50 more or less separating current songs from before and after the chart freeze:
- Spin count difference of 871 between the top 25 and bottom 25
- Only one single, "Without You" by Hinder (#26) has a spin count in the 2000s, singles ranked from #1 thru #25 have 3000+ spins and #27 thru #50 below 2000s
