They played a horribly watered-down version of Lyin' To Myself. It was barely recognizable.

This year is the third time the exact SAME chart in 1987 the fourth time and if they do another chart from 1988 that will probably be a rerun too. THE VJ'S NEED TO MIX IT UP BETTER THAN THAT!

At least the last 1980's countdown was from a time frame not featured last year. According to this thread, last year they skipped from 10/30/82 to 2/19/83. So, despite everything else, this chart featured a number of songs not played in years on 80s on 8.

I guess they wanted to do 1986, which would have likely been next in the rotation, but that Billboard did not publish a chart for January 4, 1986. (Although that hasn't stopped them in the past.) Despite that, they still said next week's episode will be 1986, which would mean they'll do consecutive charts. We'll see.

I know things get a little screwy when it comes to picking charts in December and January, but this is just ridiculous. Word has it that you can expect more of the same with a different pair of years next weekend.

I know things get a little screwy when it comes to picking charts in December and January, but this is just ridiculous. Not only is it ridiculous, but apparently they gave an explanation on Facebook that made it seem even worse. Something about having no other choice but to play 1985 last week because most other years had been featured recently. In other words, we couldn't do a November 1983 and a December 1983 show because they'd be too close together, so instead we'll air consecutive charts from 1985/1986. That's totally okay because those are different years..." Genius...

Since I'm listening to a 1985 broadcast right now and we heard 1985 at the first weekend this year. It would make it the shortest span between when a year was featured Next week maybe 1980 then 83 then 87 and so fourth.

Looks like this week for the third Consecuative week Julie Brown is the host on the 90s countdown. But then in the second version of the big 40 Martha Quinn gradually became more involved until she became a part of the 80's on 8 family permanently in 2010. The same thing is happening to Downtown Julie Brown.
