Lasvegaskid was right.
If we go in the way back machine about ten years, the 80s on 8 page had the years the big 40 will be over the next couple weeks. They listed the years when it was just Nina Blackwood doing the countdown for Sirius.
I wonder which thread Lasvegaskid found that next week's big 40 will be 1981?

I wonder which thread Lasvegaskid found that next week's big 40 will be 1981? It was the Big 40 Countdown thread on the AT40 forum. I saw that too before LVK posted it here.

Next week is 1981. There goes our chances of doing 1987, 1988, or 1989 (which is way overdue) the last weekend in November. I don’t get how they have been doing these rotations. At this point, I don’t have even the slightest idea of what they’ll go with first weekend in December.

Someone on another board is reporting Casey lite during TGiving week is 1981!! boooooo! *why are there no tomato emotes?!* 1989 continuing to get f**ked, sadly. I must add that P2K has not played 2008 The 70s has not aired anything from 1978 And I think it might have been since summer that 90s aired 1998. Sometimes it seems like Sirius XM is stuck in the same four or five year.

Sometimes it seems like Sirius XM is stuck in the same four or five year. 70s countdowns are also airing on local stations under Premiere so it doesn't concern me how long the gaps are in-between plays on SXM. I didn't even notice the lack of '98/'08 shows, mainly due to focusing on 90s on 9's shitty scheduling and because most hits in the 2000s lasted forever (unlike '89, where again, the turnover rate was a lot quicker).

Next week’s Survey is a special: Billboard’s Top 50 Album Hits of the ‘60s! It’ll be interesting to see what’s classified as an “album hit”… ...welp, either Hoeffel misspoke or I misheard, because this week’s special ‘60s Satellite Survey is actually the Top 50 Autumn Hits of the ‘60s. kind of a shame really, I was interested in seeing what an "album hit" was... 50: ELVIS PRESLEY - SUSPICIOUS MINDS* 49: OLIVER - JEAN** 48: MITCH RYDER and the Detroit Wheels - DEVIL WITH A BLUE DRESS ON & GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY**** 47: JOHNNY TILLOTSON - POETRY IN MOTION** 46: ROY ORBISON - CRYING** 45: LEN BARRY - 1-2-3** 44: BRENDA LEE - I WANT TO BE WANTED (Per Tutta La Vita)* 43: JOHNNY RIVERS - POOR SIDE OF TOWN* 42: THE CRAZY WORLD OF ARTHUR BROWN - FIRE** 41: THE VILLAGE STOMPERS - WASHINGTON SQUARE** 40: MARTHA & THE VANDELLAS - DANCING IN THE STREET** 39: THE SUPREMES - YOU KEEP ME HANGIN’ ON* 38: THE TOYS - A LOVER’S CONCERTO** 37: THE RONETTES - BE MY BABY** 36: SAM COOKE - CHAIN GANG** 35: O. C. SMITH - LITTLE GREEN APPLES** 34: THE McCOYS - HANG ON SLOOPY* 33: SAM & DAVE - SOUL MAN** 32: THE SHANGRI-LAS - LEADER OF THE PACK* 31: NINO TEMPO & APRIL STEVENS - DEEP PURPLE* 30: THE ROLLING STONES - GET OFF OF MY CLOUD* 29: MARY HOPKIN - THOSE WERE THE DAYS** 28: THE SUPREMES - I HEAR A SYMPHONY* 27: RAY CHARLES AND HIS ORCHESTRA - HIT THE ROAD JACK* 26: J. FRANK WILSON and THE CAVALIERS - LAST KISS** 25: DALE & GRACE - I’M LEAVING IT UP TO YOU* 24: THE CRYSTALS - HE’S A REBEL* 23: THE DOVELLS - BRISTOL STOMP** 22: FOUR TOPS - REACH OUT I’LL BE THERE* 21: THE ASSOCIATION - NEVER MY LOVE** 20: BOBBY (BORIS) PICKETT and the Crypt-Kickers - MONSTER MASH* 19: STRAWBERRY ALARM CLOCK - INCENSE AND PEPPERMINTS* 18: THE DRIFTERS - SAVE THE LAST DANCE FOR ME* 17: THE TEMPTATIONS - I CAN’T GET NEXT TO YOU* 16: THE 5TH DIMENSION - WEDDING BELL BLUES* 15: THE MONKEES - LAST TRAIN TO CLARKSVILLE* 14: THE BEATLES - YESTERDAY* 13: ? (QUESTION MARK) & THE MYSTERIANS - 96 TEARS* 12: ELVIS PRESLEY with the Jordanaires - RETURN TO SENDER** 11: FLOYD CRAMER - LAST DATE** 10: THE SUPREMES - BABY LOVE* 09: MANFRED MANN - DO WAH DIDDY DIDDY* 08: THE BEATLES - SOMETHING / COME TOGETHER* 07: DIANA ROSS AND THE SUPREMES - LOVE CHILD* 06: DION - RUNAROUND SUE* 05: THE 4 SEASONS - BIG GIRLS DON’T CRY* 04: JIMMY DEAN - BIG BAD JOHN* 03: JIMMY GILMER and THE FIREBALLS - SUGAR SHACK* 02: LULU - TO SIR WITH LOVE* 01.a: ELVIS PRESLEY with the Jordanaires - ARE YOU LONESOME TO-NIGHT?* 01.b: THE BEATLES - HEY JUDE* the asterisks indicate where the song charted on the Hot 100. Next week, the regular countdown comes back with 1964! (which may or may not be a repeat, TBD)

The early announcement of 1981 came from Alan Hunter himself. I happened to be listening at the time. He was promoting the 1987 show and slipped in a mention of what would air over the holiday weekend. Next week is 1981. There goes our chances of doing 1987, 1988, or 1989 (which is way overdue) the last weekend in November. I don’t get how they have been doing these rotations. At this point, I don’t have even the slightest idea of what they’ll go with first weekend in December. The year selections have become a lot more random lately. For a very long time, they would just rotate each year every 9-11 weeks but now there's no guessing what might happen. Only one December 1989 chart out of four has ever been played, so they still have a chance to do something right before the year is out. That doesn't mean they will... Meanwhile, December 1988 is heavily overdone so I wouldn't mind if they wait until January. And I think it might have been since summer that 90s aired 1998. Based on their repetition of the 2020 year selection, 1998 was due to air in October, but they skipped it for unknown reasons. I was glad about that for two reasons. One, 1998 is one of the years (along with 1997) that saw far more non-radio urban hits appear on the Hot 100 than true pop hits. Also, because of that skip we have been getting charts that are completely different from 2020 ever since. This week's 1996 chart was actually from two weeks earlier than the one we heard two years ago.

Once again, R. Kelly was edited out of the show and another song was brought in to be the fake #5 song, this time being U2’s “Vertigo”, which was at its #31 peak that week (I didn’t even know it charted tbh). Remember when they would just skip over the song? Good times... It is better since when they skipped the song the countdown sounded like it was missing a song. On the positive side we might get to hear songs that just missed the top 30.

It is better since when they skipped the song the countdown sounded like it was missing a song. Personally, I'd rather they just go back to skipping over the songs.
