°(LDD) Africa - Toto
Dear Casey,
I want to send this Long Distance Dedication out to you. Back in 1982 when I was 14 years old, my dad was transferred from Munich, Germany to Pretoria, South Africa. That meant a big change for me and my family. I had just started to learn English, and I was soon listening to your countdown every Sunday. It was my means of learning the English language. There were songs from Toto, Men at Work, Foreigner, The Police, Madonna, and so many more. I studied Fine Arts and listened constantly to your program, and my favorite feature was your Long Distance Dedication. Well after 10 years of living in Africa, we moved back to Germany. It was once again a big change. I felt homesick. There were no countdown shows to record, and I longed to return to South Africa. In 1998, my restless travel spirit had called me once again, and I decided to work on the island of Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands. That's where I met my husband, and today I'm living in nearby Florida. Imagine my surprise one day when I came across the radio station with Casey Kasem. It brought back so many good memories. I could not believe my luck, and I've been listening ever since. So would you please play "Africa" by Toto from back when I first discovered you all those years ago? Life takes strange turns sometimes, and this is one extremely good turn.
With Warmest Regards,
Saskia

His father had a similar pair that he wore when plowing. There are even specs of white paint on the boots from the time he painted his house in 1982.
