Releasing a GH CD with no new singles on it makes no sense whatsoever, so Tim McGraw now has some company. Tim has now done it twice as of October 7th; does that make him TWICE as insane as these guys are? Yeah, it does make him twice as crazy. Anyway, I don't think it makes sense for superstars like RF and Tim to not put new songs on their greatest hits. I mean, it's not like they have to worry that they won't become hits like some smaller artist. Everyone of their singles does pretty well.

Crazy or not, I love it when artists don't stick one or two new songs on their GH albums, that way I don't have to go out and buy them. Actually, if I own all of their albums (as I do with RF), I would just buy the singles from the GH instead of the album anyway. But still, this way we get a new studio album that much faster.

If you ask a typical Rascal Flatts fan what they want most from the guys, you'll most likely hear one of two things... 1) A greatest hits album or 2) A Christmas album We're getting two for the price of one with this one. It'll no doubt be a hit. ;)

The fact that radio couldn't wait to get rid of 'Bob That Head', on track to record the largest single week drop in spins of any song this decade (if not ever), and embrace this fine tune wholeheartedly seems to indicate that these guys have redeemed themselves at radio, as Tim McGraw & Toby Keith have similarly done with their current singles.

Ugh. Seriously, why does everyone like this song? It's just… bland. It sounds like a bad rewrite of "Bless the Broken Road".

Bleah. What's there to like about this song? It's just bland Rascal Flattsness. At least "Bob That Head" was something new for them. Ugh. Seriously, why does everyone like this song? I've listened to it a lot in the last few days after hearing it would be a single. I love the melody of the song and the way the lyrics move. Subject wise, it is similar to BLBR, but the sound reminds me of "You" aka RF's earlier style.

Lyrically, it is basically just a re-write of BTBR, but the flow of the song differentiates it for me. I just find the melody very pleasing (but then again, I like most of RF's melodies), and I think Gary does as well as he can do with it. I don't consider it one of RF's very best singles, but hands down the best single off of this album (I loved WAALG, but I'm not sure it was the best single choice).

I think the melody is flat and repetitive, and Gary oversings the last chorus. It could grow on me, though. I also thought "Winner" was a winner, and easily their best work since "Fast Cars and Freedom".

I don't know what it is, but there is something about the chorus of this song that I love. I do feel that this is Broken Road part 2 but It was one of my favorites on the album along with Help Me Remember when I first listened to the album. This should camp out at the top.

It's good that RF has come back to their senses to release "Here". This one will brink them back into the T3.

As someone else already said, I'm a fan of the flow and melody with this. The other issue is that as an aspiring songwriter, I think you have slightly different standards. Yes, it's very similar thematically to BTBR, but I really liked BTBR -- so as a listener, combine that theme with a strong melody and it's enjoyable. I agree with you that it clearly shouldn't contend for any song of the year awards, given the lack of originality here. But from a more shallow, casual listening standpoint, it's not bad.

I agree that "Here" is not bad, it's just not very good either. Melodically, I hear nothing that particularly stands out; maybe a bit repetitive, but not bad either. Production-wise, it's typical Dann Huff, which of course means cold, sterile and overproduced. The lyrics are probably what get me about this song. I find lines like "There’s a place I’ve been lookin’ for/That took me in and out of buildings/Behind windows, walls and doors" horribly mundane. Just like Brady Vercher of The 9513 said, who hasn't gone behind windows, walls, and doors? I also think it's a matter of expectations for me. For instance, I expected nothing new from "Country Man", since there have been over 9000 fluffy country songs about Southern pride in the past two years alone. Given all the praise I was reading on this board, and the fact that Jeffrey Steele is one of my favorite songwriters, I was expecting something a little more substantial, and instead, I got a weak rehash with lyrics so generalized that they instantly take on whatever meaning the listener wants them to. Combined with the heartless production and uninspired vocals, it just makes for a very, very bland song. Granted, not every song has to say something new, or even say much of anything at all. It's okay if a song doesn't have a hook or melody or anything to make it stand out. But sometimes, a song seems to almost go out of its way to be inoffensive, and like I said, overly generalized. These are the kinds of songs that Rascal Flatts seem to thrive on, and it just irks me.

I didn't really like "Winner." It grew on me, but not to the point where I'd actually put the song on repeat when the CD is in my player. "Bob That Head" grew on me and I started to like that one--liked it much more than "Me & My Gang."
I love "Here" and am glad they released it. I would have loved to see "No Reins" be released though too. I don't see why everyone likes "Secret Smile." I didn't when I first heard the CD and its still one I don't like. For personal reasons, I really love "Every Day" and "It's Not Supposed To Go Like That." I'm not sure the latter will be released--or even if its a good radio single, but I love the song, so in a way I hope it is released, but radio is starting to get me all Flatted out, and I don't want them to kill the Flatts for me like they did Chesney and Tim McGraw.

I think that Rascal Flatts changed drastically when they switched producers. I know the first time I heard "What Hurts the Most" it was jarring, since it had the huge string section, obnoxious drum machine, theatrical vocals, etc. Dann Huff should never be let behind the board IMO, he always hyperproduces.

Walmart had two, an excellent cover of "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me" and a new one called "Man In Love With You." Target had "Head Over Heels" and Best Buy had "Love Another Day." I don't think you can download them, but youtube has them. EDIT, one thing I forgot to mention about the bonus tracks is that they're a bit rougher than what you'd expect from RF. The reason being is that those recordings are the songs before any serious remixing and whatever it is producers do to give songs a polished sound. For example, on "Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me" you can clearly hear Joe Don's harmonies are a bit too high and on "Love Another Day," you can hear Gary get slightly winded during the chorus. They're still awesome with all the imperfections though, but very interesting to listen to.

What I wouldn't give for rougher Rascal Flatts material. What I also wouldn't give to send Dann "Hyperproducer" Huff off a cliff.
