WIOG Saginaw-Bay City-Midland You mean they don't?? :o I forget in which thread it was, but I read the post about how speeding up songs affects the quality of them, and I've noticed that songs WIOG plays are of somewhat better quality than on other stations (such as WCFX Mt. Pleasant, which is not on the Pop panel). I know that doesn't really illustrate what I'm saying, but what I'm wondering is that if it's not speeding up songs that helps produce that crisp radio quality, then what is it?

When I visited the Saginaw area three years ago, WIOG didn't speed up songs. If that's no longer the case, I'll take them off the list.

To be honest, I wouldn't really know if they do or they don't.
I have no idea what all goes into creating that "crisp" radio quality...all I know is that until this thread, I'd been thinking that speeding up songs was the definitive part of the process. Now I'm not so sure.

From off the top of my head (though subjected to change if proven otherwise): Star 94 Atlanta Star 94 def. speeds up songs, esp. at night (but think they only speed up certain songs, like Realize and Say by John Mayer) - everything def. sounds slower on Q100 IMO WKZL/Greensboro def. doesn't speed up anythin...neither does WDCG/Raleigh, WAEV/Savannah, or WXKS/Boston (as of the last couple years)

WAEV definitely speeds music up and has since their inception, and WXXL now does as well.
I was in the Atlanta area this weekend...has Star stopped speeding up their records altogether? I'm almost positive they were to an extent at night (like you said, with songs like "Realize" or "Sorry") but I heard nothing of the sort this time around.

^Yeah was just listenin to Star 94, and they def. still speed up songs (slightly) - Shake It is another one they speed up, and Sorry's another good example...and IMO Say sounds tons faster than it does on I-Tunes - Realize is prob. the song they speed up the most
Another station that def. doesn't speed up songs is WNOK/Columbia SC...I was drivin through there and the songs really seemed to "drag" IMO (prob. cause I was used to Star 94)

I have no idea what all goes into creating that "crisp" radio quality.... I think that's radio compression, not speeding up the songs. Speeding up the songs if anything lowers the quality and pitch-shifts the songs up slightly so they're about a quarter-tone higher than the album versions.

SL100 does pitch, actually. 0.50% during the day, 2.0% after 6PM.
WDKF/Dayton does, as well.

When did 104.7 WNOK stop speeding up their songs?? Not sure but I was just over there last weekend, and they sound REALLY slow - and it almost sounds like an amateur station (although it has huge ratings) cause they go straight from one song to the next w/out any station logo, D. J. comments, etc. IMO almost sounds like listenin to someone's IPod
