Fuck "I Need Love"! Yeah, I said it. And, to be honest, a lot of the other ladies jams he's made throughout his career. "Around The Way Girl" is the one where LL sounds the most comfortable and, hell, himself! An ode to all the self-sufficient hood girls, this was not only LL at his lyrically sensitive best. It was also where the loverman side of him got the best musical backdrop, what with Master Marley Marl's slinky, rolling beats and smooth grooves putting the whole song on a whole 'nother level. In a way, it's the kind of hip-hop ballad guys can enjoy without feeling too uncomfortable, if you get my drift.  Too bad we had to wait until 2002 to hear an LL ladies jam that reached almost similar heights, in the guise of the Neptunes-produced "Luv U Better". Still, we salute, LL! |

The "New Bass" mix is the best but hard to find mix. I used to jam to this in the clubs back in the day.

The first LL record I heard. I remember liking the "All Night Long" sample at the end of the chorus. His best ladies jam.
