I loved this song when it was out, but if I hear it today, it makes me cringe. I foolishly bought the album thinking there would be some good songs on it. It ended up being THE WORST album I have ever bought.
The song peaked at #2 on CHR/Pop.

It was really catchy... overall, a great song. It spent a week at #1 on my chart.

This song kicked ass, but it got so overplayed that its image is forever warped in my mind. It's nowhere near as exciting to hear it on the radio as it was when it was climbing the Alternative chart. I was so excited that they were finally getting their breakthrough single. Sadly, it ended up their kiss of death.
I hate that they had to go down as one-hit wonders. They had 3 other great singles that were slept on: "Toxic," "Darkside," and "Drowning." I loved Seth's (Shifty's) voice. And I give them much respect for covering the obscure 1999 cult-classic art-punk gem "New Noise" by the Refused, when they played Ozzfest.
I don't understand why rock radio didn't give "Drowning" a better shot. People seem to think they had started to bite Linkin Park, but I didn't think it was that cut and dry. This song is better than anything off Meteora.
The Gift of Game wasn't great. I can totally understand why people would hate it and sell it back in droves. It's half-good. But the bad half is kinda crappy.
Darkhorse, while they went in a direction I wasn't totally cool with, held together as an overall better album. The good songs mostly got a little worse, while the bad ones got a little better, compared to the first album. I can't believe they didn't even bother to release a follow-up to "Drowning." They were all set to release "Hurt" as the 2nd single, but they never actually did. The label had given up already. Not that I think it would've made any difference. There weren't really any other "surefire" singles left.
Part of their problem, now that I think about it, is that they never really had their own sound. They never had a steady formula that, when you heard it, you said, "This is a Crazy Town song." They were/are still finding themselves as a band, I believe. Sadly for me, I can't imagine them sticking together much longer.
Oh yeah, and the "Butterfly" video was perfect. The track has this hazy, mysterious feel to it and the exotic digital garden was gorgeous and impressive. Not to mention the 3 girls in the video. (I preferred the dark-haired one that ended up with Seth.) One of the very best videos of both 2000 and 2001, if you ask me.

When I first heard this song at the time,I throught it was a Limp Bizkit song. Find out a few weeks later when the video came out on MTV,it was crazytown at the time. Never liked the song. Throught it was really annoying. But I like Shify Shellshock's parts in the Paul Oakenfold song 'Starred Eye Surprise".

This song absolutely sucked! So much that I don't care if it was from early 2001!

Agreed. "Drowning" was so underrated. "Butterfly" was okay, but not nearly as good.

One of the best songs of the 2000's.
I also liked how on the radio I could hear two versions- the regular version and the hard rock version.

I'm glad this thread was resurrected Anywho, this song became one of my favs in the spring of 2001. I disliked it at first, but it soon grew on me and I would always find myself jamming it up in the car.

I like the song, and always wondered why the group didn't get more attention. They have a good sound, and then bands that don't even do it as well as they do get far more press. Their second album was actually pretty decent.

The reaction that Colin Hanks' character has to this song in Orange County says it all.

I never liked the original version of this one. Jazzy Jim's remix made it tolerable for me.

I remember hearing this song and I thought it was beyond corny.
I would be embarrased if I was apart of this band.
