One (no pun intended) of Elton's best songs ever. Released in the summer of 1992, the song spent four weeks at number one at A/C, and also became the top song of that year (YEH!) and did well at CHR as well, peaking at three and spending about sixteen weeks on the chart. It was number one on my chart, though I forget exactly how many weeks. I especially like the grand piano solo at the end. That's just a perfect way to cap off what is already a great song. Too bad some A/C stations fade out the song before it gets to that part.

Ooh, I don't like "The Last Song", especially now since a few lyrics in the first verse relate to my cat that we had put to sleep over the weekend. So glad that's the last song on the tape, so I can just turn it off instead of having to fast forward through it.

This was one of his better non-70's songs.

Excellent song. I wish Elton could put out some comparably good hits like this nowadays.

I love this song. I didn't so much when it was out, but over the years I grew to like it more and when I got his Love Songs compilation, I loved it.

This song is fantastic. Like Nick, I didn't like it all that much at first, but I love it now.

I like this. A girl called Kim on the UK's new series of Pop Idol sang this the other week, she went out sadly. The reason was it's not *THAT* well-known here (Peaked at #10, but never gets recurrent play, it'spretty much forgotten). She actually gave a really lovely rendition. Her best performance, though, was of "River Deep Mountain High" by Ike & Tina Turner.

I am pretty much the same way. I am a huge Elton fan, but occasionally he puts out something I can't stand. ("Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", for example.)
"The One" is one of my favorites, though.

He's had a lot of great songs... this is one I'm appreciating a lot more these days, but it still doesn't beat most of his others.

Great song, a bit over-dramatic in the verses, but one of the best melodies he has written- the album of the same name went double platinum for him- he was definitely on a big comeback around this time.

I didn't like it when it first came out, but once it became recurrent, that's when I began to like it. It's been a while since I've heard it and would love to hear it now.

A great song from a great album, and OMG I loved The Last Song (from And the Band Played On) - such an incredibly moving song...

I am a massive Sir Elton John fan. I was 14 years old when "The One" came out and I was fascinated by the coupling of his voice and the grandeur of his piano playing. And then those Bernie Taupin lyrics which as an adult hit different sensibilities. It's truly a remarkable record.
