I like this song.
I remember Dave Barry listed it as one of the worst songs ever, thanks to the chorus:
Him, HIM, HIM!!!Β What's she gonna do about him? She's gonna have to do without him, or do without me, ME, ME!!!

After hearing this a bunch of times, it's the perfect song that poses the question, is this the end of this blooming relationship? I like that song.

You know how Rick Dees does his "The Incredible career of..." segments, usually focusing on one-hit wonders, but in some cases, the artist has had another hit. What Rick does is to say something like, "Debby Boone, 1977" and then play a drop piece of the artist's only Top 40 hit (in Debby's case, "You Light Up My Life") and then he says something like, "Debby Boone, 1980" and then play the drop piece again, and so forth. Rupert Holmes was the ultimate, since Rick kept playing "Escape (The Pina Colada Song)"! I mean, I can overlook it if the artist only had one really big hit and a minor hit or two, but Rupert had at least two Top Ten songs. Rick must have been running out of one-hit wonders.

I always got a kick out of Dees doing that but actually Rupert Holmes wasn't the worst mistake. He actually did one for MC Hammer once, and played "U Can't Touch This."

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. And Hammer had two Top Five hits, "Pray" and "Have You Seen Her", as well as several other Top 40 hits. Of course, those wouldn't be remembered by as many people as "U Can't Touch This", but that matters not. MC Hammer is not a one-hit wonder, by any means.

I like the song, too. I heard it on Music Choice '80s not too long ago.

I have been known to blast this from my car, windows down, singing along tunelessly.
Love it.

I LOVE this song! It hit number 2 on the R&R charts. 26-23-15-9-4-4-3-2-9-13-23-29-30. I created a thread for his follow-up hit, "Answering Machine" that cracked the top 40. Also a very good song.

Cheesy as hell. Epitomizes the early 80βs. Love it - way more than the Pina Colada song.
