I always loved this band back in the day. The lead singer was about 10 feet tall and bald as everything. Their music was so politically motivated but I always thought it rocked. Thier Blue Sky Mining album was also very good. If anyone has the U.S. chart positions for all of their releases I would love to see them.

I love this song! Especially the way the instrumentals kick right before each chorus. JAM!
They only scored three singles on the Hot 100: Beds Are Burning #17 (#21 on R&R's pop chart) The Dead Heart #53 Blue Sky Mine #47

Good song. I remember about playing it when I first came to work for a Mt. Pleasant, TX back in April of '88. One other song that was overlooked but somehow didn't chart all that high was another single that instantly became a favorite of mine called Dreamworld. Obviously not the best cut on the album but it's got tempo.

I really liked Midnight Oil, until I just couldn't listen to the politics to get to the music anymore.
Beds Are Burning is a classic, but there is a song I like much better by them, but I can't remember the title, it doesn't seem like either mentioned above, but it could be The Dead Heart, I'm not sure.

I really love this song, especially the just under 6 minute dance mix. Great track, interesting band...

Heh, I just listened to it again and the final horn note reminds me of the Debbie Downer sketch from SNL.

This was the year of the Australian invasion.
This song finished the year as the #1 single in Canada (1988) while fellow Aussie band INXS had the best selling album in Canada with Kick.

I have a double sided single of "Beds Are Burning" and "The Dead Heart" (my favourite Midnight Oil song). I also have a single of "Blue Sky Mine".

I love this song, but I hate the way he sings the first verse. What were they thinking?

I loved this song! One thing this song proved is that no matter what your vocal abilities are, you can have a hit.
BTW, the follow-up single is "Dead Heat", not "Dead Heart".

Great song! It's a shame the U.S. never really picked up on more Midnight Oil the way it did this song.
