What are your thoughts on this song? I actually like it a lot, but it gives me a headache! I don't know why, but it does. It's a shame since it is a great track.
A friend told me a have headache when I hear this song because it was written in a 4/3 something while regular songs are written in 4/2 something. I don't really remember what he said, hehe, but it was something along those lines...

I love this song.
It's about her miscarriage I believe.

My. Favorite. Song. Ever.
Not just favorite Tori song
Favorite song of any song ever recorded in the history of music!
It has EVERYTHING I look for in a good song:
*AMAZING dynamics, with slow verses, a hard hitting chorus, and then a thunderous bridge
*BEAUTIFUL vocals from a low whisper, to an operatic high, to a passionate yell.
*MEANINGFUL lyrics with metaphorical references to what the song is about
It's perfect. Tori's most genius piece of music. It's sad that it stemmed from such a tragic situation though :(

Spark reached #49 on the Hot 100 in 1998 mostly by diehard Amos fans buying the CD single

This is one of Tori's best. I love all of From the Choirgirl Hotel and this certainly one of the standouts along with "Raspberry Swirl" and "Jackie's Strength."

I totally feel this one. I think I discovered this on my own, as in the file sharing days.

This was about the miscarriage she suffered at the time. The video really is a masterpiece.
#16 in the UK charts, #49 in the US.

Such memories this song (and album) have for me. I was living in Denver in a tiny studio apartment. I can't believe that was 18 years ago already! Huge fan of Tori's since Earthquakes. Love this album - every song. This darker more rock-leaning style of songs (like Siren and Caught A Lite Sneeze and Raspberry Swirl) are arguably my favorite Tori songs overall. I keep wanting her to revisit this kind of sound. This last album had a few moments but nothing that really serves me FIRE.

"Spark" was the first single from Tori Amos' 1998 album From the Choirgirl Hotel. It was written after Tori suffered a miscarriage. The song was a top 20 hit in the UK, and a radio hit in the US at Modern Rock (#13) and Triple A (#18), and managed a #49 peak on the Hot 100.
