This is probably massively forgotten, despite being a kick ass song, the third best from the album of the same name, IMO. It was a hit for MJ in 1980 (#10 Hot 100, #5 R&B, #7 UK). The absence of a video didn't help it make its way into people's brains, though, unlike "Don't Stop 'til You Get Enough", "Rock With You" and "She's Out of My Life". Sad. Original version: youtube.com/watch?v=Xrd3lSn5FqQLive version from the Bad tour: youtube.com/watch?v=u5fJxtDkjwM

Great song and from an era before Michael really went, um, off the wall.

It's sad that this one is kind of forgotten, but when you have so many iconic songs, it's bound to happen. I can't say this is my favorite song by him, but it's really close. And looking at my playlist, it's my most played Michael song.

Title track and third single from his 5th studio album Off The Wall. Written by the late, great Rod Temperton. Love this.

His signature Jackson background vocals on the chorus really make this my favorite song on "Off The Wall".
So, tonight...

This was released February 2, 1980 as a single so I'm going to move it to the 80's thread. :)
I never realized that this was the first single he released in the 80's.

This may be my favorite of the singles from the album. Love the 7” Edit, that reverb!:

How is there not a thread yet for "Off The Wall"? Easily the best song from the album of the same name.
The chorus and bridge on this are pure magic. A song, a feeling.

There’s a thread in the 80’s forum for this, Glove Slap can you please merge? This was released as a single in 1980.

One of my faves from that album. Off the Wall and Thriller were fantastic albums. My dad has them on vinyl.

May be one of Michael's most underrated hits as most think of "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough" and "Rock With You" from that album. I heard this often as an old school cut on WGCI, V103, and 103.5's short-lived Jammin Oldies format in my market. One of my favorites from Michael.

much prefer this to Thriller which was sort of a rip off of this song . that had the advantage of a video with the MTV overplay and the Vincent Price rap and the era as a whole being much bigger.
