i love the earlier STP then most of their more recent, and this is amongst my favorite, though "Interstate Love Song" is probably #1 for me

These guys are so good at so many different types of rock music. I only own one of their albums (No. 4), but from what I've noticed, they started as a hard-hitting rock band for their debut, and then for their followup albums, they tried some different styles while holding onto their initial reputation. This is what made them stand the test of time.
Unfortunately, radio has invested so much of their damn airtime into repeatedly playing the same songs from the early 90's grunge bands, this one included, that it's getting harder to listen to this song and still enjoy it. Which is unfortunate, because it really was a great song.

After reading crash's post, I find it ironic that the same person said what they did on the "Hey Ya!" topic, because this is one of those songs that deserved 100% of its airplay, I believe. Not nearly as played out as "Interstate Love Song". I'm kind of glad I didn't grow up in the grunge era, because I bet that the stuff would've been unlistenable these days for me.
It's their best single from their best album. Purple started the change in direction, one that they'd further explore on Tiny Music... (which is by far their most "mellow" and sedate album), but then they finally turned up the amps more by No. 4, and the last album bombed, despite the high quality of its singles. And I thought SLDD was cool, too. A truly overlooked album. "Coma" and "Transmissions..." weren't singles, but they were truly great songs that could have been singles.

Well, what I say about "Hey Ya!" only applies to maybe 2 or 3 songs per year, total. "Hey Ya!" has been around for half a year, while this song has been around for 10 years, so maybe things might change, given a little more time.

I like a lot of STP songs, but there are better ones, like "Trippin' On A Hole In A Paper Heart", "Plush" and "Dancing Days".

It sounds familiar but I can't remember it
I know they had this 1 video against a white background, and Scott Weiland was wearing some rainbow striped pants and had red hair and black eye makeup or some stuff like that, but can't remember what song that was for...

With songs as familiar to me as this one, it's hard to say anything that crash and halo haven't already said. And frankly, if they hadn't said anything, I wouldn't have bothered to expound much.
