The idea of a Whitney Houston/ Enrique Iglesias duet sounded like garbage to me; I really didn't expect anything but pure cheese. Surprisingly, it yielded a pretty good song. The Metro Mix -- the version that got all the airplay -- had the traditional ballad-caliber vocals, but the backing track featured futuristic effects and a solid beat. I think that's what kept it from sounding too over-the-top and cheesy like the ballads these two usually make. The song was a pretty substantial hit in the UK upon in 2000, reaching #7. But it only hit #52 on the Hot 100 and didn't even make the US R&B/Hip-Hop Charts.

It made AT40! I actually enjoyed this smash when it was out, not enough to own it though. The groove to this track is tight as heck!

This was an awesome song. I remember that it moved back up the AT20 (AC) chart in October, 2000 via vacuum effect the week they did a chart purge. If I had tuned in during the #14 song (the position of the Whitney/Enrique duet), I would have been like, "Wow, this song sure had a resurge in popularity"

I was surprised at how this song misperformed on the charts in the U.S. Definitely good stuff, probably wouldn't have been done any better by anyone else.

This was Whitney's last Top 40 hit?

I remember reading that the single was promoted properly because at the time Clive Davis just got fired and LA Reid took over. Something like that. And it didn't chart on R&B because it was only sent to pop and ac, urban got that Deborah Cox duet.

I like both versions of this, but I prefer the remix that radio played. Shame it didn't do better on the charts, and shame it was Whitney's last top 40 hit. :(

Just lovely... the lyrics are great, I like the latin pop beat (even if it was in trend during that time) and the video is amazing, Whitney looked immaculate during 1998-2000, music video wise. Their voices go well together and I wish this was a bigger hit in America (even if understandable that urban wouldn't play this). I feel that there was great chemistry between her & Enrique.

I love it. Definitely my favorite Enrique single, although I won't deny that's owed to Whitney. I was very into Metro's production in the early 00s. This deserved to do better than it did.

I loved this at the time, but shortly after, rock was stealing my heart full-time.

I was just listening to this and had forgotten how good it was. What was its CHR peak?

Not one of my favorite Whitney tracks. Maybe it's because of Enrique Iglesias' presence.
At CHR/Pop, this peaked at No. 27.

Certainly not Diane Warren's best, but I loved the combination of her writing with the Metro production, which at the time was SO hot. Good combo.

Surprised this bombed so badly in the U.S. when knockoff “Nobody Wants To Be Lonely” performed significantly better when released a year later (and would have peaked even higher had a physical released occurred).

I love the original version of this song as featured on "Enrique". I've always felt the Metro Mix sucked the life out of this.

I'm always surprised how badly this did in the US. Whitney had just had three massive hits the prior year with the three main singles from My Love is Your Love and Enrique was coming off of a huge hit with "Be With You."
Maybe the Davis to Reid transition at Arista mentioned up-thread is partly to blame but it sounds like something pop and rhythmic should've eaten up at the time.

Back in those days, Whitney's singles' airplay was being driven by single sales. LA came to Arista and canceled the scheduled "double A side single" with "Same Script, Different Cast" a few days before it was scheduled to be released. Whitney fans were pissed!

I heard the ballad version on Enrique’s cd first. So I preferred that version for awhile. I always liked the song. Whitney sounds Amazing on the track. I believe she recorded it while she was touring and her voice was really strong. I thought it would have done better, but more due to Enrique. Yes Whitney had 3 big radio hits the prior year, but at least on pop and possibly Rhythmic they were mostly hits due to the remixes. The last single “I Learned From The Best” flopped at radio and we all know how her duet with Mimi did.
