I truly think this is one of the most beautiful ballads ever written. Everything about this song is flawless to me. This is one of those songs where you can really feel the emotion the artist was trying to convey, through Gwen Dickey's vocals and the production.
I'm pretty sure that this was the second single from "Rose Royce III/Strikes Again!" in 1978.
Faith Evans did a very good cover in 1995 and I prefer the version without Mary J. Blige actually. Madonna also covered this.

I couldn't agree with you anymore than this, Josh. This song puts you right into the emotional soulfully driven line. The orchestration and production is right on the money. The same direct approach with I'm Going Down.

this song sucked.... the version by Sven Gali was much better I respect your opinion. But you have GOT to appreciate the trueness of an R&B classic. No love lost, my friend.

Is this the same as the Madonna song? Yes, Madonna covered this in 1984.

This song is an undeniable classic IMO.
I love Faith Evan's cover of the song as well, and I agree with Rebirth that the version without MJB is better. I'm not a big fan of the 80's cover Madonna did, but the Soulpower Remix she released to radio back in 96 is actually really good IMO.

I always gets Madonn'a version of this stuck in my head. And I still have nightmares about her video for this where it's just one continuous shot. It always scared me for some reason.

Classic RnB. Love it. One of her best. I like Madonna and Faith's version as well.
