Top five hit from 1992 for the former lead singer of Red Rider. Nearly a one-hit wonder here in the US (he had two more minor top 40 pop hits).
#5 CHR/Pop #6 Hot 100 RIAA certified Gold single

I agree with you.
The follow-up, "Washed Away" was slightly better. I vaguely remember "I Wish You Well" but I don't think it was in the Top 40 more than a week or 2.

Whoa! I thought this song was new! Maybe because it was on "Cheaper by the Doxen" and my Hot AC station began playing it. Unless someone covered the song.
It sounds like one of the newer Hanson songs.

Great song
You got it stuck in my head now!
I didn't realize it was that 'new'...1992 is 12 years ago but still doesn't seem like THAT long ago...and the song seems 'old' to me
but it's a good one

It seems that everythime I hear this, it's put to mind of this being a road-trip song. Has that feel good approach to it.

One of the most over-rated songs of all time Agreed. They should have just left it where it came from.

I love "...Highway" but really dig Red Rider's "Lunatic Fringe." 'Nother good 80s track that really didn't make it big.

I liked this a lot back then, but merely like it today.
I recall a story where his bus got pulled over and he ended up not getting ticketed because his song was a favorite among the highway patrolmen at the time.

Chris LeDoux had a cover of this one about 6 years ago. It was never a big hit on Country radio (same goes with just about all of his songs), but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Yes... very good driving song... seems like the only time I ever hear it is when I'm driving on one of my Hot AC's... KBBY...

I hear every Tom Cochrane song constantly on every radio station here, so this song's really worn off. I like Lunatic Fringe and Human Race better.

I like it a lot. It's one of those songs in which if you had a convertible and let the top down while cruising down the freeway, it'd be the perfect song to play.
BTW, all you countdown geeks may know about this, but when "Life Is A Highway" was on Casey's Top 40, Casey told a story about the meaning of life. I came in on the tail end of it. I wish I was able to hear that in its entirety.

Excellent song from 1992. A fun road trip song that rocks!
This might even fall into the category of "classic rock" compared to what was being released in the early '90s. This tune was lively & refreshing. Too bad it was Cochrane's only big pop hit - peaked at #6 in '92.

A perfect song to listen to with the top down while driving down the interstate. My classic rock station is playing it, too.
