...could...not...resist...temptation. (Sorry, Pete :() I'll start off with a very obvious one: Dionne Farris's "I Know" only being #12 for 1995 despite being a #1 for 9 weeks and being #1 for the year in R&R. On the other hand (and I know I'll take a beating for this one ), I agree with "Torn" as his #1 for 1998. IMO, "Iris" should have come too little, too late to be #1, especially against an eleven-week #1 with just as much longevity. Of course, it is dubious to see "My Heart Will Go On" at #2... But then there's Donna Lewis's "I Love You Always Forever" as his #51 on the 1997 chart... ???

Maybe some songs charted higher because of his personal favorites. Or maybe it was the spin totals on KIIS-FM back then.

It slipped my mind that 1997 was the first year that had to deal with a pre-existing recurrent rule at the start of the year. It still seems awkward given its #2 placement (or rather, #1 on his) for 1996.

Come On! All of Rick Dees rankings make perfect sense. He writes all the song titles down on little sheets of paper, sticks them into a hat, and the order that they are drawn out determines the rankings! See? There is a logical explanation!

"This Is How We Do It" was #6 for the year!

Then that makes me wonder how When I Come Around was #4.
LOL! Well, when you put it that way... ;)

Then that makes me wonder how When I Come Around was #4. Well, remember that he didn't start using that rhythmic-leaning list until June, 1995. Until then, he used the R&R chart (only, he was two weeks behind). "When I Come Around" had pretty much run its course on the chart by mid-year, so it had gained enough points to rank so high on the year-end chart. Then again, "I Know" by Dionne Farris was on the chart at around the same time and it only managed to be #12 for the year. Yeah, his year-end shows really didn't make sense in 1995. I wonder, had he done a full Top 100, if "Close To You" by Fun Factory would have made the chart?

This past year, Rick hardly mentioned any ranks it all. It was tons of music, which was good (I think he only skipped 4 songs in Part 1 and 4 songs in Part 2), but it was hard to follow.

Off topic to Rick Dees: You know what AT40 year end chart rankings made no sense?: Some of these included: "Some Kind of Wonderful" by Grand Funk which was #6 for the 1975 year-end "Two Princes" by Spin Doctors which was #1 for the 1993 year-end

In the last few years, there have been a lot of recurrents left on that didn't even chart during that calendar year. I think AT40 is much better at getting rid of those in their year-end countdowns.

As for "Some Kind Of Wonderful", on another website, it was determined that was a calculation error. By the way, wasn't there another topic that dealt with AT40 year-end rankings, made not long before this one?

You're Makin' Me High making the 1997 year-end chart despite falling off in 1996.

^Yeah, and the weird thing about that is, the one week during the 1997 chart year spent on the chart was due to an error. They inadvertently dropped "Come On 'N Ride It" by the Quad City DJs instead of "You're Makin' Me High". Not that I'm complaining, because I like "You're Makin' Me High" and I hate that repulsive train song.

Remember Rick Dees' 2001 year-end countdown where there were some rap songs in the year-end chart despite not making or being played on his Top 40 countdown shows like "Ms. Jackson" by OutKast?
