Wow! I've never heard of this group before, but this is really cool.
Can you tell me anything else about Buttercup?
The song kind of reminds me of "Sugar Baby Love" by The Rubettes.
It's a shame that apartheid-related issues prevented a lot of really good South African groups from ever breaking through during this period. The one I know and like is Clout, who are best known for their version of "Substitute." Most of their stuff was versions of other people's songs, but they chose some really good stuff and turned out some worthy remakes.

I don't really know much about them. From the album cover, I see that the song was released as a single in Europe and South Africa and became a huge hit, but it was never released here. I wondered why, but what you said about apartheid-related issues rings true. That's a shame because for sure it would become a huge hit here as well.
I listened to Rubettes, of whom I've never heard before, and they do sound similar - especially that falsetto sound. They are good ! Almost a novelty act, but good, although I do wonder if they are lipsynching in the videos that I've seen.
And Clout is another group I've never heard of - I listened to Substitute and they are very good as well. It's funny though that it was on the "A" side of "I'll Survive". Talk about not doing your market research !
That's too bad that none of these South African groups made it here due to politics.
BTW, "Baby Love Affair" was written by Ken Levine (music) and Ernest Schroder (lyrics). They wrote another 5 songs on the album. The rest are covers.

I think I could e-mail Ryan Seacrest and Rick Dees with the YouTube clip to see if "Baby Love Affair" by Buttercup could get a lot of radio airplay in the USA and Canada and even make the Top 40 charts (AT40/Rick Dees Top 40/Billboard/R&R/Mediabase) by early 2008.

Sure, if you think emails will work. It would be nice if someone covered it. I think it could be re-arranged in a more contemporary style.

I haven't seen this album on eBay. I found it on the Internet at this website: www.gemm.com/which links what they claim to be 20,000 record stores around the world. A store in South Africa had this album, but only one copy and I bought it. Maybe some other store has it. If they don't have it now, just keep checking. It took me a few months of searching to find it.
