#8 BB R&B Singles #13 Hot 100
#1 in the UK
The foursome mixers were from the UK, and came together and decided to make just one record. I think this is one of the best hip hop songs of all time (notice I did not say rap). Has anyone heard the original UK version before there were lawsaits against the mixers for unauthorized sampling such as samples by Stock Aiken & Waterman and James Brown. I prefer the UK original version over the U.S. version.

Brothas and sistas!!
I love this song... it was so different from anything else on pop radio at the time, I was shocked that it peaked as high as it did.

I love the song.
I even have the namesake album (cassette).

I hated this when it was big. HATED. Years later I have grown to tolerate and even like it a bit. My avoidance of hip hop was probably part of not liking it.

Definately a hip-hop classic. I also like the UK version better than the US version.

This is a great sample track!
My favorite part is the whole sample from Ofra Haza in the middle.

Hot jam! Hot beat! Later used for Jade's "Don't Walk Away"

BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!
Great song, one of the first pop hits to prominently feature sampling.

I heard this song three times this weekend, since U93 is playing "Old School Jams" several times an hour. I heard songs like "Just Got Paid", "What's Up", "Now That We Found Love", "Macarena", "Hip Hop Hooray", and a host of others that I haven't heard since the year they were popular. I even thought that they were playing a new mix of the Cure's "Lovesong", but it was actually the remake by 311.

I love it. JAM! indeed. If I made a list of favorite songs from that decade, this would maybe even be in the top 10.

BROTHERS AND SISTERS!! Great song, one of the first pop hits to prominently feature sampling. Was "BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!" a sample from a different song? Because I remember at least two songs that used that in their songs: "Live And Learn" by Joe Public in 1992 and "Say The Words" by dc Talk in late 2000. This was a fun song. I heard it a lot back in early 1988, since B96 and Z95 played this song regularly, especially Z95, on which the song spent about six or seven weeks at #1. It was #2 on their Top 95 of 1988, behind "Kokomo" by the Beach Boys.

It has hip-hop appeal, but it's more of a high-NRG dance or house song. Good song for D.J.s to re-mix!

This is no hip-hop by any means! This is pure ACID HOUSE. It's one of the first acid house records, actually. And a true classic. I really don't think this has a hip hop appeal, as I loathe hip hop. But that's just me. Stock Aitken Waterman took M/A/R/R/S to court for an unauthorized "Roadblock" sample. I can't remember if the original version made to a commercial release. Either this was released without the sample, or it was released with the sample on and then withdrawn after the court's ruling... which means those copies are very rare.

The extremely rare mix that you are talking about was NOT released in the US. Secondly, it was in fact released and broadcast in the UK during it's initial song peak at #1. I know because they played that mix 4 times in one night at a school dance in England. Sadly after the whole sample fiasco, the re-cut copies edited the samples extremely cleverly.

This song was so ahead of its' time especially with how many UK house producers love to sample anything '90s these days. Love this song.
