This song is so perfect. It's everything music is and it all just falls together flawlessly.
This didn't see any success until 7 years after the album came out, when it hit #92 on the Hot 100 in 1977.
There have been uncountable covers of this song by all kinds of jazz artists.

I don't like it at all, and I can't stand "Brown Eyed Girl" either. God, if I had a dollar for everytime I had to play BEG when I DJed I'd be livng in the penthouse at Trump Tower. And he was a drunk who (Buuurrrrp!, oops excuse me, I've been drinking all day) spit on his audience members during concerts.

I love it! You're not quite correct though, Josh, it did enjoy success at AOR radio. I'm not sure why it hit the pop charts so many years later.
If you like this, you'd probably also enjoy his Tupelo Honey, an ode to the joys of living and loving (the "she" he speaks of is his wife, Janet Planet). There's an excellent cover version some of you may have heard by Cassandra Wilson.
The album 'Tupelo Honey' contains another of Morrison's better-known and often-covered tunes: Wild Night.

Van Morrison may be a drunk, but I really like a lot of his music. This song is a good one. I always liked Real, Real Gone.

Good song and it felt just right back then. I perfer his soulful selection that was also released back in either 1970 or '71 called Domino. That what got me going back in my AC years.

Was there a reason why this song was delayed so long?
It not only had to wait 7 years to have a low Hot 100 chart ranking, it took even longer for AC stations to start playing it. I didn't hear "Moondance" on AC stations until the '80s. That's about the time "Brown Eyed Girl" started getting some AC airplay too.

It had to wait so long for AC play because it wouldn't have really fit in with the AC styles popular when it came out...
Great song!

Agreed, those are probably my two favorite Van Morrison songs ever. Then I'd add "And it Stoned Me" and "Crazy Love" to my Best-of-Van list. Classic stuff.
