I remember liking this song the very first time I heard it. It went on to become my favorite song of the 1980's. It hit number 9 on the R&R chart in January 1984. He had a follow-up hit in late March called "The Kid's American." It hit number 28. He never hit the top 40 again, but he was a well known producer for other acts. In 1996 he produced "Just A Girl" by No Doubt.

Back in the day, Casey mentioned that Matthew was the first solo Matthew to hit the Top 40. There have been at least 2 since: Matthew Santos and Matthew Koma.
