Yeah, this is a great song. I don't know which version I like more though, Heatwave's or Luther Vandross'. I think Luther by a smidge, just because of his voice. This was a bigger hit for Heatwave though peaking at #18 on the pop chart and #2 on the R&B chart. Luther only went to #58 and #16.

I think it was the rap group Whistle that also did a version of this. They're remembered for the Old Skool hit "Just Buggin."
It's a classic, just so played out.

A great, smooth ballad. #1 or #2 in the region where I lived. Imo Heatwave's version was much better than Luther's, but then I'm biased against remakes. I like even better their dance numbers "Boogie Nights" and Grooveline", which I just heard on the radio this morning.

I was wondering if I was the only one who felt that way. I must admit that it doesn't totally suck, but I just don't think it's all that.

Luther's actually reached #40 for a week on the pop chart.
I think this song's funny, but only because I've seen three people try to sing this on Showtime At The Apollo and they all were booed off.

Both versions ranked about the same on my chart.
Heatwave's version peaked at #25 on February 4, 1978.
Luther Vandross spent 7 weeks at #18 beginning December 31, 1994.

Whistle's remake is my favorite version. Heatwave was better off sticking to disco.

The Heatwave version is quite an AC favorite. I like it, but not that much. Luther's is OK, but I prefer Heatwave's.

Whistle's remake is my favorite version. Heatwave was better off sticking to disco. That song hit the Top 40, fell out, and re-entered. Shadoe Stevens mentioned that at the top of the show and then said that nothing like that had happened since 1979 when Blondie did it with "One Way Or Another." I just love trivia like that.

Great song, and STILL the definitive version (sorry Luther).
