Every time I try to do a search going back more than 1,000 days, this website crashes in my browser. So I searched 999 days and couldn't find a thread on this song. I remember one, but it must have been either here in the very early days or on R&R. This is one of my all-time favorite feel-good tunes. It's almost impossible to listen to and maintain a bad mood. It's pulled me out of the dumps more than once. It's just a wonderful, uplifting song that ought to be an anthem for somebody. So crank it up and enjoy!

Not much into country crossovers, but I do like this one.

Not much into country crossovers, but I do like this one. You know, this song was really more pop-rock than country. That's why it did so well on CHR & AC back in '76, but not as well on the country chart. So it was really more of a pop crossover to country - sort of like "Hey Won't You Play Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song" by B.J. Thomas, or many of Juice Newton's hits from '81 and '82.

You know, this song was really more pop-rock than country. That's why it did so well on CHR & AC back in '76, but not as well on the country chart. I agree for the most part, but I've always thought of LYLF as a country song that's full of pop hooks. I seem to remember that it did indeed fare better at CHR than at Country, but given the undeniable twang and Howard and David's undeniably country voices, plus their loooooooong string of exclusively country hits that followed this (including some that stretch the boundaries of the country genre much more forcefully than this ever did), I think one can make a plausible case for putting this in the country catagory just as easily as the pop. Do any stations ever play this as an oldie anymore? Except when I've played it myself, I don't think I've heard it in well over a decade.
