I was certain there was a topic on this already, but I searched and didn't find anything.
A #7 Pop hit in 1982. I recall reading somewhere on this board that this set a new record for how long it spent on the Billboard chart.
WTBT plays this occasionally, and at the end there's like a minute of extra music and some extra lyrics that aren't included whenever I hear it on Joe FM.

Here's its Hot 100 run (43 weeks on, a record at that time): 90-80-73-70-67-64-100-100- 90-80-64-56-50-49-48-48-47- 43-39-33-29-21-17-14-11-9-8-8-12-17-17-23-31-86-96-99-98-98-97-97-97-97-97-off

This was really good, but after this, didn't he (or was it they?) just disappear, becoming a one-hit wonder?

When they disbanded, their lead singer, Marc Almond, started making solo stuff. I do think that they broke up shortly after the success, though.

I sort of liked this track. It's one of those guilty pleasures.
DJ/Remixer Peter Rauhofer resurrected this song some years back and remixed it. It wasn't bad.

This was pretty good. I was introduced to it while watching that movie "The Coneheads." My local HAC station still plays this once every couple of weeks.

I always thought it'd be better if a woman sang it

I always thought it'd be better if a woman sang it I believe Soft Cell's recording was in fact a cover of a female artist's song...no idea who the original singer was though. (Aaron, Chris, any idea?)

"Tainted Love" was originally recorded in the mid-'60s by R&B singer Gloria Jones (who later married T.Rex singer Marc Bolan, and was the driver in the car crash that killed him in 1977).

Cool song, but I'm kinda sick of it. The medley version is better than the single version.

The medley version annoys me. The song itself does, too, but I can tolerate the non-medley version better. And yes, it is so overplayed.

Yep, the song is overplayed and the sample is overused, not that I didn't like this or anything.

This and the Naked Eyes version of "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" are both new wave influenced versions of oldies and, in theory, should sound horrible, but in fact turned out quite good. I still enjoy both despite overplay.

Not even Manson's craptacular remake could ruin this song for me. An eighties song that has aged well.

There's actually 2 single-released versions of this song. The most common was the shortened version sans the "Where Did Our Love Go" ending. There was a longer single containing "Where Did Our Love Go", but it was an abrupt edit - it went from "Tainted Love" directly into "Where Did Our Love Go".
The album version contains the entire long version of the song - including the music bridging "Tainted Love" into "Where Did Our Love Go"

One of the best 80’s songs and honestly still sounds fresh to me.

One of the best 80s songs ever. I like the full version (medley w/Where Did Our Love Go) over the radio edit. I often heard this song whenever AC/Hot AC stations like 100.3 and 101.9 the Mix played an 80s track.

Dòn't listen to this that much anymore, but it's an 80s classic.
