This was Maxwell's flop debut single from 1996. It kicked off his phenomenal album Maxwell's Urban Hang Suite (which any fan of R&B should check out). The song really displays his talent with its complex arrangement and many deep layers of sound. It has a really great groove and was one of my favorite songs from the album. It probably would have performed better had it been released after his big hit "Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder)." But it stalled at #79 R&B and didn't make the Hot 100. It hit #63 in the UK. There are a few excellent versions of this song on the single... You can check out the video here, but you need to hear a crisp audio version to fully appreciate this jam.

I absolutely detested this song. It made BET's Top 20 in 1996.

I love Maxwell. This was a sexy song.
I can't wait for him to come back with something new.

I LOVE this song and I LOVE this album to this day. I remember when I first saw this video I was hypnotized. I made sure I went out and bought his album and I played it constantly. I think I was in the 9th grade and I finally turned my friends and cousins on to Maxwell.

Great song from an excellent album. Every last one of his albums is incredible. He's a true perfectionist.
I feel like this song is better known than its chart peak suggests. It seems to have gotten more attention after he started scoring hits.

I don't like Maxwell as much as everyone else does, but it's a good song. He definitely has very few bad songs in his catalog.

I'm not a fan of this or "Whenever Wherever Whatever". The other 2 singles were much better.

I love …Till The Cops Come Knockin' but he recieved very limited airplay with that song. KKBT Los Angeles used to play it during certain parts of the day while KJLH played in prime time rotation in early 1996. I remember KKBT and KJLH jumping on Ascension (Don't Ever Wonder) as an album cut in June 1996 and then he started gaining heavy spins from then on. "Urban Hang Suite" started to increase in sales due to "Ascension's" heavy exposure at radio. He's get's A+ from me 👍. Maxwell one of my Top 10 favorite Neo-Soul artists of all time.
