I used to love this song. I was disappointed, too, that it just missed the top 40.

This recieved a grip of spins on the East Coast and I also had a strong belief that it would make the 40. But instead it became a bigger R&B smash than a pop smash, and that was a bit surprising. I saw the video on BET and it hit #12 on the R&B singles chart due mostly to radio airplay.

Most of the airplay I heard was from R&B stations. An AC station in my area at the time even played it.
