Do you remember in 1987-1988 "Dear Mr. Jesus" by Powersource? This Christian record made the Billboard Hot 100 and (despite a Chicago Tribune Pick Hit prediction) failed to make the Top 40. And it would have been revived in 2001 at the time of the September 11, 2001 tragedies in America.

I recall that it was played heavier during the Christmas season, even though it really wasn't a true Christmas song.
It was really sad. Not a favorite of mine, but it put a tear in your eye.

Peaked at #61; lead vocal by 6-year-old Sharon Batts.
This is one of those songs that definitely would've charted higher if it had been released by a major label. The company that released it wasn't able to keep up with initial demand, and didn't get enough copies of the single into stores until the song had already disappeared from the public mind.

And radio stations didn't play "Dear Mr. Jesus" much.
Whatever became of Sharon Batts?

That record label that released the 45 of "Dear Mr. Jesus" by Powersource was PowerVision Records. I know Shadoe Stevens' AT40 in a March 1990 episode played a medley of songs to make the Hot 100 that included "Jesus" in their titles and a drop piece of "Dear Mr. Jesus" was in the medley.

Wow! I remember the first time I heard this record, on B-96 in Chicago in the fall of 1987. I needed several tissues.
I believe that on a December, 1987 episode of "Rockin' America Top 30 Countdown with Scott Shannon", which aired on that station back then, the song was played as the "Rockin' America Extra of the Week", because Scott Shannon was talking about how Christmas was a wonderful time of year, but for some children, it's just another day. Then he started talking about child abuse and this song was played. Might have been the December 19 show, since that was the one that came right before Christmas (and the week after was Part 1 of the Top 60 of 1987).
