Looking at that list, I'd say that, with the benefit of hindsight, the only two entries that actually hinted at the "change of guard" that would start to occur later in the year were REM's and LL Cool J's. All the while, we still had enough hair metal entries to not deem the genre out yet, a healthy chunk of dance music (C+C, Cathy Dennis, A La Tour) and a whole lot of variety in the rest of the chart that, in itself, could be perceived as a sign of a transition phase in America's mainstream pop world.

Mariah, Black Crowes, Queensryche, LL Cool J, Tevin Campbell, Rod Stewart, Cathy Dennis, Amy Grant, and Roxette all in one countdown? Ah, those were the days lol. Heck, even as lame as some of these hair-metal songs are, they're still fun too.
