This song ended Olivia's 12-year consecutive run of top 40 pop hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She had at least 1 top 40 hit every year from 1973 through 1985. "Soul Kiss" in 1985 was her last top 40 single she would have.
"Soul Kiss" showed off Olivia's more mediocre side. It wasn't one of her best songs, and she was showing signs of losing popularity.

I'm not a huge ONJ fan but I liked this.

The video was shot while she was pregnant with her daughter Chloe.

Yes, they carefully hide the fact that she has one in the oven...loose shirt & never have her stand during the video.

The intro is fire, but out of the whole Soul Kiss album to me this is middle of the pack. The album should of sold more.. there are quite a few great songs on there (but also a couple meh ones too come to think of it.. eh a clusterfuck)

I remember this song peaking at number 24 on the R&R chart. I thought it was an alright song.

Too bad "The Rumour" missed the top 40 back in 1988. That was a great tune.

Great song from a career killing album. Olivia reacted to the arrival of Madonna by trying to outsex her with this thinly veiled ode to giving oral pleasure. Another cut on the album, Culture Shock, has her wanting to live in a 3 way relationship with two men. The topless riding crop photo on the back cover also didn't help. She did get things back on track material wise with The Rumour album in 88 but as Billboard put it, the arrival of Tiffany & Debbie Gibson suddenly made ONJ look old....

This is a decent song, but it's far from a standout in the Olivia Newton-John repertoire. I like it, but it's no surprise that this gets such little replay.

I like this, especially the verses. As forced as it seems, it's masked well by seemingly genuine sultriness.

Toughen Up is my fav. song from the album, this is alright though (middle of the pack).

Sexy song.
The imagery and themes of the Soul Kiss album made it her Erotica equivalent - although she never recovered from it.
