This was from "The Muppet Movie" and peaked somewhere in the 20s. I only recall hearing it once on the radio, but I always liked it.

One of my favorite songs probably because I loved the Muppets so much. I had an old scratchy 45 of this until recently when I happened to find a cd copy of the soundtrack to the Muppet Movie. Ahhhh, crystal clear Kermit!

Karen Carpenter does a really good version of this. You can find it on the Carpenter's Gold CD.

I like Ernie's "Rubber Duckie" better.

I heard this song as a long distance dedication on AT40 sometime in the 80's. I loved the song ever since. Just listened to it the other day in fact.

Several years in a row, we sang this song in choir class. In middle school, with the different voices, the alto part (consisting mainly of guys) sounded totally bland, until mixed in with the other voices.

This got released???? :o
I love it. Kermie & Piggie love duet.
The only major muppet hit here was the short-lived character of Kermit's nephew, who hit #7 here in the 70's with "halfway down the stairs' or something....

Thanks for the link Reception, but after listening to this cut, this is not the hit version that came out in 1979. Similar, but not the same. Like I said earlier, one of my favorite songs, maybe because I grew up watching the muppets in the 70's.

I like Ernie's "Rubber Duckie" better. Shadoe Stevens played a drop of "Rubber Duckie" as a tribute to Jim Henson when he died in 1990. But I can't remember if he played "The Rainbow Connection" or not.

I heard a cover of this song sung in the Hawaiian language recently on KHUI.

Kermit took this tune to #25 on the Hot 100 in 1979 and should have won an Oscar for best original song for this tune instead it went to a forgotten tune from "Norma Rae"

"Rainbow Connection" made #25 on Billboard, #40 on Cashbox, but failed to make the R&R chart.
"Rubber Duckie" made the Top 20 on Billboard in 1970 (The first year of Casey Kasem's original American Top 40).

A true classic. It probably qualifies as a modern standard at this point, as people like Willie Nelson and Sarah McLachlan have released covers of it.

An anthem- for both Muppets and Non-Muppets. :) Not quite as magical as "Over the Rainbow," but good.

I hear this played every once in awhile when 1979 is represented on "American Top 40 - the 70s."

When I first recorded this song I never would have imagined the amount of impact that it was going to have on so many. Thank you all!

Speaking of Kermit the Frog, what happened to him and why is the thread locked?
