In the next week or two, many AC stations will be going 24/7 Christmas music, meaning we will begin seeing mega spin losses on the AC and Hot AC charts (although less so on Hot AC). That is a given.
But the question of course is which songs will be hurt the most. For example, last year Phil Collins and Faith Hill seemed to have a lock on the #1 spot on AC, but when the all-Christmas switch was flipped, Santana and Michelle Branch were able to hold down the #1 spot. Then when the stations returned to the regular playlists, Phil and Faith reclaimed their battle for #1.
This year, will Uncle Kracker prevail over Shania and hold down #1 on AC? Will MB20 be affected on Hot AC? Just post your speculations! :)

If it means anything, two years ago "Follow Me" was one of the songs that was helped the most during the Christmas season. As for "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!", I know the chart position of that song was also affected significantly last Christmas season, but I don't remember if it was positively or negatively. Since Train is looking like a sure #1, here's how I think the top 3 will look during most of the month of December:
1. Train 2. Uncle Kracker 3. Shania Twain

I think the 'Lighter" AC stations, are more likely to play more Christmas music, while the stations that play more Hot AC stuff and more new tunes will not play as much.
Therefore, Train and Krapper should hold up well, while Shania might drop.
The intangible is MercyMe. Considering the song is about Jesus, while they get a Christmas boost?

Katrina Carlson may benefit from the Christmas season because there is a Christmas version of "I know You By Heart"

So THAT's why I continued to hear that song last year even though both AC stations here were all Christmas.
Speaking of all Christmas, I'm glad the stations here haven't switched over yet. Last year they switched the week of November 16 and I thought that was way too early. When you play nothing but Christmas music for six weeks, it makes it no longer special.

What was the last Christmas song to reach the Top 20? I'm guessing "The Christmas Shoes," but I'm not positive.
I think anymore, R&R/Mediabase filters out all or most the Christmas stuff when figuring out the charts. I remember seeing half of Billboard's AC chart being overrun by holiday music last year.

At one point last year, I remember Vanessa Carlton at #1 during the holiday period.
I think Shania Twain will lose #1 to Unwell.
Glad to see Fallen still with a bullet.

As of now, it looks like I was completely wrong about Uncle Kracker and Shania:
2 1 SHANIA TWAIN Forever And For Alwa... 2069 2168 -99 19.281 3 2 TRAIN Calling All Angels 1950 2158 -208 16.775 1 3 UNCLE KRACKER Drift Away (f/D. Gra... 1886 2250 -364 18.762
Of course, since the Christmas airplay is only going to increase more and more, things could change.

What was the last Christmas song to reach the Top 20? I'm guessing "The Christmas Shoes," but I'm not positive. Was James Taylor's "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas?" that same year? Because that song made the top 20. Also, Faith Hill's "Where Are You Christmas?" and Josh Groban's "O Holy Night" made the top 20 on Mediabase's updates, though I don't think they ever made it on R&R.

"The Christmas Shoes" and "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" both went top 20 two years ago. There were no "official" top 20 Christmas songs last year.
What new Christmas stuff is coming out this year? Hopefully at least a couple Christmas songs will make the AC chart this year.

Last year, Josh Groban's "O Holy Night" was released, and that did make the top 20 on AC spinwise. HOWEVER, for some reason, the Mediabase people (and the R&R people) decided to place the song in recurrent, so it never did officially make the chart. I don't know why they did that because in years past, many Christmas songs were able to chart on AC.

I don't know why they did that because in years past, many Christmas songs were able to chart on AC. If a Christmas song is more than a year old, the record company must officially re-release the song or it is considered a recurrent. For example, "The Christmas Shoes" was released in 2000 and went to #14 on AC. It also charted on AC in 2001 because their label re-released it. However, since they didn't do so in 2002, it was considered recurrent and not allowed to re-chart. However, wasn't last year the first year for "O Holy Night"? If so, I have no clue why they would put it in recurrent unless there is some new rule I'm not aware of.

Haha, "Unwell" is up to #2 and only 5 spins away from #1.
If they had kept the bogus 15/-3 rule, just think of what a catastrophe the AC chart would be each holiday season.
The Hot AC station here (yes, Hot AC) has flipped to all Christmas... grrrr

Bah Humbug to all Christmas stations. I can't stand those. They should start between Thanksgiving or days from Christmas and of course end after Christmas.

As I surmise the sans recurrent chart for tomorrow, it looks like we will have top 10 entries by Christmas songs. Look for A LOT of droppers on tomorrow's chart. Last year, I think the highest a Christmas song got on the sans recurrent chart was #7 or #8. We will see how that goes this year.
