I really think this will be a hit. I hope so, at least. It has that perfect "winter" sound to it. The lyrics aren't that impressive, but Avril's never been one for lyrics, IMO. She is just a master at writing a good hook. Her voice has also never sounded better.
I'm crossing my fingers for this one! If this isn't a hit at pop, it definitely will be at Hot AC. Although Avril seems to be too early into her career to suffer from Alanis Syndrome.

I don't know why but I love how she sings 'Hear me when I say I believe.' She sounds so convincing lol.
I really want this to be a hit too, it deserves at least Top 20. I doubt her new album will sound like Alanis, people are suspicious about Avril falling like Alanis because they are Canadians.

Well, I meant Alanis Syndrome where she's big at pop and then is confined to Hot Ac.. and in Alanis' case, removed from both formats minus the first single. I don't think it will happen to Avril this early in the game. At least I hope not!

I predicted that Avril's charting career would go the same way Alanis' did but her second album was more successful singles-wise than Alanis' so at this point, I doubt it will happen. Avril is a bigger name in the present 5 years after her first hit than Alanis was five years after YOK was a hit.

Has it been 5 years? I thought Complicated came out in 2002?
Anyway... UMS was pretty successful single wise, but it only had one #1 (MHE) and Alanis's second album had two (Uninvited, Thank You). Avril's other 3 singles did decently to just ok. Right now I'd say they're about the same succeswise, however, I have a feeling Avril's third album will be just as big as UMS, or bigger, especially with the momentum of a strong soundtrack hit.

Avril is hipper than Alanis so she won't get relugated to Hot AC/AC radio. She is still Pop and will be hugely successful this year. She could have a year worthy of being the top female of the year depending on how her album is like. Based on this song she is well on her way to that.

Has it been 5 years? I thought Complicated came out in 2002? Well if we want to get technical, it's been about 4Β½ years. It came out around April 2002 and we're nearing 2007. The cover is nice but it doesn't really fit with the song imo.

Alanis' second only had 1 #1. Uninvited wasn't on the album. It was the soundtrack hit between the first two, much like 'Keep Holding On' being the possible soundtrack hit between Avril's second and third CD.
Alanis' chart history for her second CD: Thank U - #1 Unsent - #16 So Pure - #33
Avril's: Don't Tell Me - #13? My Happy Ending - #2 Nobody's Home - #14? Fall To Pieces - #36
In Canada, even Avril's second CD was much bigger than Alanis' as all four of her singles were pretty big whereas Alanis only had 'Thank U' as her big hit and 'Unsent' was moderate.
Alanis' third album had only 'Hands Clean' peak at #21 or so with 'Precious Illusions' just missing the Top 50. I'd say Avril will do better than that with her album, even if she doesn't get a Top 10 hit.

Why is her voice so auto-tuned on this song? Her voice has never been fixed so much on any song I've heard from her.

He Wasn't was only released in Canada and for some reason, Fall To Pieces was released soonafter... as if they pulled all promo for He Wasn't, even though it had a video and Much aired it, I think. Fall To Pieces did quite well too.

I could see Avril being pushed to Hot AC / AC as she matures. She's no longer the little teenage single rebel who has 'Broken Heart / Girl against Love' syndrom. Even as hip and mainstream she was not too long ago this COULD happen. Nothings too far fetched in radio these days ;)
I'd still bet against it but it IS a possibility.
