Since Whistlin' Pete is posting about obscure songs from September, 1987, I thought I'd join in the fun.
Anyway, this song only got as high as #33 on the R&R chart and spent only a month on the chart, which I thought was a shame, since this was a cool song (yet crap like Tiffany's shameful remake of "I Think We're Alone Now" is allowed to sail on up to #1). But at least I got it on tape on one of the weeks it charted. Go West would have a little more success on the chart in the early 90s with "King Of Wishful Thinking", "Faithful" and their cover version of Bobby Caldwell's "What You Won't Do For Love". But, although I like all three of those songs, I think this one was far better.

Agreed. This song deserved a lot better than being at the bottom. I used to have the original version from their first album circa 1985 (there were other songs that almost went nowhere) like We Close Our Eyes, Call Me,Eye To Eye and the first Don't Look Down. I remember their second album didn't do all too hot with its sequel, but as you said, they perservered with the other three songs you mentioned.

Debuted on AT40 the week of 9/26/87, one of six debuts that week (that was also the week that the two Tommy James remakes by Tiffany and Billy Idol debuted). Very memorable show for me, as that was the week that I started writing down the top 40 on a regular weekly basis.
Anyway, about the song... I like it. :)

I like this, but prefer the tracks mentioned from debut disc, especially ETE. I think there was another thread about them where I spent a few paragraphs talking about them. cool disposable pop, 1st album shoulda been a big hit.

Yes, here's a great obscure tune from 1987. This was actually the first top 40 appearance for Go West, but they had 2 hits in 1985 that hit the Billboard Hot 100. "We Close Our Eyes," and "Call Me." I actually like these songs a bit better than "Don't Look Down," but I never really cared a whole lot for "King Of Wishful Thinking."

Actually, to correct myself, Go West had three Hot 100 appearances in 1985. And I agree with Ulij's statement about remakes such as "I Think We're Alone Now" hitting number 1, yet this original song was barely recognized.

This song rocks! I have their Best Of CD, and this is also one of their best songs. I also have the original radio recording at my parents house when Paul Gambachini played this as the "British Breakout" when he hosted the American Chart Show over in England.

Don't Look Down-The Sequel reached #39 on the Hot 100 in 1987 and became there 1st top 40 hit something We Close Our Eyes couldn't do but it's not on their greatest hits album

but it's not on their greatest hits album You sure 'bout that? They've got three greatest hits sets listed on Amazon.com (one domestic and two imports), and this song is on all of them.

I'm sure, I went to a record store awhile back and I didn't see the tune on a Go West greatest hits collection

The song appears on the "Aces & Kings" CD (a Greatest or Best Of) Collection of Go West songs. I bought that while in Nashville at a TOWER RECORDS store!

Is there still a TOWER RECORDS where you live since I heard that went out of business recently Nope! When I moved here in the Twin Cites (MPLS/ST. Paul) in 1992 there wasn't one. But there were loads of Sam Goody/Musiclands (Minneapolis-based) and a few Camolots (now known as FYE).
