Sandwiched in between two awful country-sounding songs ("Lay Down Sally" and "Promises"), this was actually a decent slow song by Clapton that I liked. It peaked at #17 on Billboard, but surprisingly, didn't hit the R&R chart.
Anyone ever seen the commercial where that girl is looking for an outfit to wear to a party (or something like that) and the song is playing, only the line "she's wondering what clothes to wear" keeps playing over and over again. Turns out that her husband is playing around with a computer so that line repeats, until she comes out and says, "Honey, knock it off." LOL!

"Lay Down Sally" rocks! But so does "Wonderful Tonight"--at least the original version.

I liked this song a lot when a local AC station played it on an occasional basis in the early 1990's. Now I'm kinda sick of it, as it went from being "occasionally played" to "played to death" on AC radio.

I agree to a point. It was a good song, but not one of Clapton's best. In fact, this was one of the weaker tracks on an outstanding album.

It's alright, but I like "Lay Down Sally" and "Promises" better.

Don't like it. I can think of so many better Clapton tracks.

I'm not feeling this, WGLT in Minneapolis just plays the devil out of this one.

I think it's a good song. I get a nice depressed feeling when I hear it.
Did it not hit any of the formats on R&R?

I really like it, but my favorite by him is probably the original "Layla," not the toned down single re-release version.

I really like this. Even though it's way overplayed, it's one of my favorite slow songs.

I don't think it is underrated at all. I say great song.

Overplayed and drags a bit too much for me. Somehow there's an emotional disconnect for me - can't get into it.
