Even though Stevie's 1987 album Characters only spawned one top 20 hit on the Hot 100 and no top 50 hits in the UK, it was a fairly big success on the US R&B format where it generated four top 10 hits. "My Eyes Don't Cry" was the last of these when it was released in 1988: It hit #6 at R&B, but didn't make the Hot 100. It is my favorite single from the album and seems to still receive a decent amount of airplay at the format. (Plus, I used to always hear it at wedding receptions for some reason.) This is a seven-minute long groove that I consider to be one of Stevie's best from the decade. It is really infectious and I am very surprised that it didn't perform better. There are heaps of great mixes for this song, if anyone cares to track them down. I love this one.

The single remix is hard to find. On Itunes they want you to buy the whole box set for nearly $200. Now on this box set you get most if not all, of the rare mixes to Stevie Wonder's singles including this one and that remix to "So What The Fuss" featuring Q-Tip. I have the 12 " version of this track on CD if you need it. I really do not care for the LP version it's blah to me.

Oooh... I do happen to have the 45 of this song. This was a surprise in 1988, I didn't expect it to become one of my many favourites from Stevie!

Great song and still played at family gatherings because everyone and their mother loves to get up and do the hustle to it.

LMAO. The "My Eyes Don't Cry" hustle! #gag
This is one of the better songs from that album but not one of my favorites by Stevie by any means.
Here's a live performance from Wembley in 1989 (can't find the album version on YouTube).
