Does anyone remember this song? One of my favorites from 1984. I still have the 45 single somewhere :)
VH-1 used to show the video all the time. Paul McCartney was in it.

Oooh, classic pop! Love it! So catchy and fun. Perfect bubblegum.
Amusing fact, Tracey couldn't hit that big "Baybeee" note before the final chorus, so they just put the original Vocal from Kirsty Maccoll's version in that part. I presume Trace always mimed the track....
She had a few hits in the UK. 'Move Over Darling' is also much fun, download it. 'Breakaway' was quite decent too. She never took her pop career seriously of course, it was all a big laugh to her, and as soon as the hits dried up she happily moved on to other things.

Indeed a classic pop song with a near-Spector-like sound in a way. Kinda reminds me of Leader Of The Pack . I remember hearing this song and I thought: This is SO cool! If you have seen her show on HBO called Tracey Takes On, they use that song at the end credits on the show when Tracy lip-synced it while she was in some of her characters. Still a favorite until this day.

That's funny because I had no idea. :)
Her album "You Broke My Heart In 17 Places" also has a version of "Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me)." Rick Dees played a clip of the original verison (I forget who sings it) when "I Want You" by Savage Garden was in the Top 40 because they sound so much alike.

I think it sucks really bad. In fact all of Tracy's music is pretty "gag inducing" to quote Rebirth

Sort of like in the version of The Brady Bunch where the kids were singing that song Greg wrote, but Peter's voice kept cracking. In the new song, "Time To Change", someone else had to sing Peter's part because he couldn't get his voice to sound that way.

Yes, same Tracey Ullmann. Download the song, it's a lot of fun.

Tracey's debut album 'You Broke My Heart In Seventeen Places' has just been re-issued with bonus tracks in the UK. Here's another link to the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0FIl4-cC9U

They Don't Know peaked at #8 in 1984 and everyone in the US didn't know they she would host a succesful variety show on Fox and introduced the Simpsons to the world on the series.

I love this song. I remember hearing it as bumper music on a show and I googled the lyrics and was shocked to learn who it was! TRACY ULMAN? I only knew her from her HBO comedy show and had no idea she had a music career. Anyway, great song.

Kirsty MacColl was such a talented singer-songwriter. She truly passed too early.
I like both versions of this song, but I prefer MacColl's, likely just because it's her and she's awesome. Ullman did it justice, though.

A cover of a Kirsty Maccoll song (who provides backing vocals on this too), this song peaked at #2 in the UK and at #8 in the US in 1983. And this was before she found success as a comedienne with The Tracey Ullman Show.
Love this song, perfect for karaoke. Paul McCartney also made a cameo in this too.
