If it wasn't a novelty hit back in 1968, it certainly sounds like one now.
Anyway, this song appears in an episode of "The Simpsons." In a flashback, Grandpa is watching the moon landing while Homer is wearing headphones in another room and singing along to this song.

It bordered on being a novelty hit in 1968, as did all other songs by similar bubblegum pop groups like the 1910 Fruitgum Company and the Lemon Pipers, among others. But they weren't classified as novelty hits (at least in the Joel Whitburn books, they weren't).
Anyway, I have heard bits and pieces of songs by the 1910 Fruitgum Company and the Ohio Express, several in televison commercials. They're so/so. I'm sure if I were eleven years old, I'd love them to death.

I think I remember this from Monty Python's Flying Circus too.

Yummy Yummy Yummy reached #4 on the Hot 100 in 1968 and yes this was in Monty Python's Flying Cirus in the song was used to end the show in which the performers perform the song in boxes.
