One of the best (if overplayed) radio songs of 1995, which was my best summer ever. Vanilla rock never tasted so good.
Discuss.

I guess it was overplayed, but I still love it.

There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this "song".
What an insult to humanity that it was ever produced. And then, it was released as a single.

Mariah Carey (first 3) C+C Music Factory (3) Cyndi Lauper (2) Hootie & The Blowfish (2) Nothing negative to say here. I liked the song then. I like the song now. :)

Though Hootie and the Blowfish indeed used to be overplayed, I'm disappointed exactly how much dirt they got from critics. They really are not groundbreaking, but a decent band nevertheless that only wants to write more innocent songs that many can relate to.
"Let Her Cry" is beautiful, to me. My all-time favorite single of theirs would probably have to be "Time"
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

It sounds like all their other songs. Exactly. Their follow-up, "Only Wanna Be With You" sounds like an upbeat version of "Let Her Cry". And IT also went to number one!

I never liked this song at all. I noticed with Hootie, I liked every other single.
liked "Hold My Hand" hated "Let Her Cry" liked "Only Wanna Be With You" didn't like "Time" liked "Old Man And Me" - my favorite H&tB single hated "Tucker's Town" .. at that point I lost track, but I definitely remember not liking "I Go Blind". There was another non-single I really liked off of "Cracked Rear View", but for the life of me I can't remember what it was. I never bought the album, but had friends that played it for me all the time.

It is the all-time favorite Hootie track, according to their fans, who voted for the one additonal track to put on their new Greatest Hits collection along with their singles. It is also my all-time favorite. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

My Hootie Single Report Card:
*************CRACKED REAR VIEW***********
Hold My Hand: B+ (A beautiful innocent sing-along that can cheer any lover's heart. A song I love playing on my acoustic)
Let Her Cry: A- (A deeply heartfelt ballad. It still makes me cry listening to it, as I am kind of a softy, as it was a song I heard a lot when going through stages of depression as a boy. Perhaps its just the sentimental value giving this a high grade, but I don't believe I'm the only one who can relate to this song.)
Only Wanna Be With You: B- (It's a bit mediocre how they borrowed some of Bob Dylan's lyrics for this #1 anthem. Nevertheless, it's a light-headed melody that's enjoyable to listen to.
Time: A (Hootie's only #1 hit on Hot AC. Their best single to date.)
Hannah Jane: C (Mediocre first track and final single from "Cracked Rear View". It seems Darius tries too hard to be the next Bob Dylan or Foreigner.)
*************FAIRWEATHER JOHNSON*************
Old Man & Me (When I Get To Heaven): B (Heartfelt ode to a soldier.)[/b]
Tucker's Town: C+ (The song never really gets anywhere lyrically, but still mirrors some relatable emotions.)
Sad Caper: B- (The video for this single was beautiful. Nothing particularly impressive but the video does it justice.)
**********FRIENDS SOUNDTRACK*********
I Go Blind: D (Their cheesiest single to date. Nice kind of summer-time musical feel, but a forgettable track.)
**********MUSICAL CHAIRS***********
I Will Wait: B+ (Darius displays some maturing of lyrical depth here. A passionate ode.)
Only Lonely: B (This hit that also was featured in the "Message In A Bottle" soundtrack is a sensitive and consoling single.)
Wishing: C (Their first single which didn't chart.)
**********SCATTERED, SMOTHERED AND COVERED**********
Use Me (cover) D (They have done some decent covers, but this is among their worst.)
**********HOOTIE & THE BLOWFISH**********
Innocence: B+ (A welcome comeback, though one of little notice. A deserving hit that never was.)
Space: C- (Nothing quite celestial here! ;) ).
**********THE BEST OF: 1993-2003***********
The Goodbye Girl: B+ (One of their best covers, in contrast to the awful cover single choice "Use Me")
Sincerely, Noah Eaton

I don't think it was "Not Even The Trees" that I liked. It doesn't really ring a bell. I'll have to figure it out when I get home tonight. Heh, and with Noah's listing of singles, I can see my pattern holds up: liked "Sad Caper" (don't remember anything about the song now, but remember rooting for it over "I Go Blind") hated "I Go Blind" liked "I Will Wait" hated "Only Lonely" ... and that's when I completely stopped keeping track of them. The Goodbye Girl: B+ (One of their best covers, in contrast to the awful cover single choice "Use Me") What about their cover of that Led Zeppelin song? The name escapes me, even though I really should know this. I remember that being played on the radio a bit... I'm guessing it wasn't a single though. Whoa.. in the Counting Crows topic, I totally asked the same type of question to the same person about a band that came out around the same time and has the same sort of sound. Deja vu. Edit: I'm pretty sure the album track I liked was "Drowning".

Yeah, I used to be a fan. The song was solid, as were all of the singles from CRV. The band's music just never advanced at all, however, and when the sound burned out, everyone just lost interest. That's what happens when you sell 20 million copies of one album.

All of their singles hit number one on my charts from that album Cracked Rear View! I used love the band.

I love it along with every single from Cracked Rear View, which was such a classic 90s album.

It's a good song. It's probably my most played single from Hootie & The Blowfish, but now I'd rank it third among their four big singles from Cracked Rear View (the one I like less is "Only Wanna Be With You").
