IMO, the most underrated of the Motels hits. In early January, 1984, this song peaked at #33 for three weeks, which was pretty unusual. I guess the reason that this song peaked so low was because the song sounded so much like "Only The Lonely". However, for some reason, I liked this song better than the latter. I have this song on tape, from when the Motels were in the "Countdown America Spotlight" in the summer of 1985 (because of their current hit "Shame"). I knew that they'd play it because they only had a choice of four hits (since that's all the Top 40 hits they had), so I had my tape ready.

Very minor hit indeed as I barely remember it. Loved listening to Countdown America. Here's a clip.

LOVED the Motels... of course they were really big out here on their home turf in L.A...
I agree this was a VERY underrated song... "Only The Lonely" and "Suddenly Last Summer" though are a step above... 2 true classics that I never tire of...

It was OK but "Suddenly Last Summer" was better.

My vote for most under-rated Motels' song would go to:
"Take The L" how this one never made Billboard's Top 40 after the success of "Only The Lonely" is beyond me. Now, failure of "Forever Mine" is understandable (third single from the debut album).
The Dick Clark National Music Survey had "Take The L" as a showcase song on 8-21-82. What was the date of the Motels' spotlight on CA?

The Motels were in the Countdown America Spotlight the weekend of August 24-25, 1985.
Didn't you originally have the Motels flop hit listed as something like "Take Me Over And It's Over" on your notes for the National Music Survey?
