ulij20 had suggested a thread on big droppers.
The one that comes to mind is one he mentioned: Damn Yankees with "Where You Goin' Now."
I also remember "Step By Step" by New Kids taking quite a tumble out of the Top 40.
One of the oddest, as mentioned several times before, was the re-entry of "Found Out About You." The following week, it fell out (or was removed) from the teens (#17?), and then completely disappeared the next week.
Over on the Hot 100, "Doctor, Doctor" fell out of the Top 40 from a very high position, the Top 10 or low teens I believe.

There were a lot of odd chart moves that week. As far as Hot 100 drops go, all I can say is 1982. Aaron (mst3k) posted a very long list of insane drops from that year in a different thread.

Here is the thread in which Aaron posted that longdong list. There's also more about the big drops on this now defunct message board.

Recently in Billboard, there were all these songs from a soundtrack by unknowns that debuted because of sales, and then quickly dropped.

dixie chicks' landslide comes to mind along with the country hit they had at that time... that had record-setting drops if memory serves me right after the Bush snafu.

On one of the first R&R pop charts of 1992, Paula Abdul's "Blowing Kisses In The Wind" tumbled from #10 to #33. That may have been over the two-week holiday break, though (since there were several songs that made huge jumps on that chart as well).

Yeah, I remember that show. The most noticeable big jump was "Diamonds & Pearls" by Prince & The New Power Generation, which moved from 18 to 5. However, this chart contained so many normal moves for the first chart of the year, such as "That's What Love Is For" by Amy Grant falling from 32 to 40. But late 1991/early 1992 was about when the R&R chart began slowing down (contrary to what many may believe, the slow chart started before PPW in April, 1994).

When that happened on the AC chart, "Landslide" dropped from something like #1 to #10. Casey mentioned 2 other songs that had dropped that far. One was by Barry Manilow and another was by a nun

Actually, "Landslide" fell from 1 to 9, both on R&R and AT20 (the latter was using a different chart). The other two songs were "The Lord's Prayer" by Sister Janet Mead from 1974 and "Ships" by Barry Manilow in late 1979.

That reminds me of someone mentioning Phil Collins's "Two Hearts" fall from #1 on the Hot 100...1-10

Cyndi Lauper's "Money Changes Everything" peaked at #20 on ChR for 2 weeks but only had a four week run, so it must have had a CRAZY jump/fall

The chart run of "Money Changes Everything" was: 30-21-20-20-off. It was indeed a crazy chart run. Granted, its debut at number 30 was right after a two-week break, but so what? It still would have been a weird chart run. It wasted no time hitting the Top 20, but then the brick wall materialized and the song just plummetted. What, did everyone suddenly realize that they were sick of Cyndi Lauper?

That wasn't that weird of a chart run. At least the song was on the chart for awhile.

"Step By Step" fell out of the Top 40 from #22. It may have been because the follow-up, "Tonight," was getting a lot of airplay at the time.

It also reminds me of Avril Lavigne's quick run up a few years ago with "Losing Grip"... went up real fast and died at 17 and fell off just as fast...

Losing Grip lasted 11 weeks on the chart, and its two weeks at #17 were week 6 and week 7. But how about "Just Want You to Know" from BSB? It was at its peak of #21 on 9/16/05, and just two weeks later it was gone (it was #51 on that week's Sans Recurrent Rules chart). That's an instance reminiscent of the 80s.

I just remember how fast Avril's song rose and then just DIED... I was mad! Good example with BSB BTW... Anyways... I did some research on the Hot AC chart and "Landslide" was stuck at #2 for 8 straight weeks (HAHA)... then fell to #3, then to #9 and then completely out of the top 20 (the chart I have access to only goes 20 spots)... I can't remember ANY other instance of a song on the Hot AC chart dropping from the top 10 to completely out of the top 20 the next week...

On Bob Kingsley and Crook & Chase this past week, "Jesus, Take The Wheel" by Carrie Underwood fell off their top 40 charts from the #3 position.

Air Supply once fell from #6 to #42 on the Hot 100 with Even THe Nights Are Better back in 1982.

"Stars Are Blind" by Paris Hilton made a HUGE drop last year, both on AT40 and Rick Dees Weekly Top 40.
