A very melancholy song about watching an old flame getting married to someone else. This almost happened to me about five years ago. I got an invitation to a wedding. The bride was a girl I used to know. We never had a serious relationship, but we were good friends. I knew right off the bat that I wouldn't be able to hack it, so I opted not to go.
As depressing as this song is, it has a great melody, which is why I like it so much. It was a mid-chart hit from the late summer of 1980 that I feel was underrated.
A rather funny story about this song - I had heard it, but had no idea who sang it. When I saw a chart with the song on it, I erroneously read his last name as being Knockblock. You can imagine my embarrassment when I called a radio station playing a lunchtime 70s program (that occasionally would play a song from 1980) and the DJ corrected me. I looked again at the name and realized that there was only one set of ck's in his name, at the end.

I agree, it's a depressing song that a lot of people can relate to.

No, the DJ did not play my call on the air because he did not have the song that I requested. That would have been funny if he had.
I was about to tell you that story on Thursday night's chat, but then I got to remembering about how I could relate to this song.

I can't stand this song. Every time I hear it, I just want to yell at the guy, "THEN WHY DID YOU GO?"
