This is probably the darkest of the Supremes' many hits: It's sad and brooding and completely uncharacteristic of their bouncy pop hits. But it's still a stellar record: It features one of the best basslines in the Motown catalog. Great vocals from Diana, too. I think this is easily one of the more underrated singles in their catalog. It even flopped in the UK. This was the second single from their 1965 album I Hear A Symphony. I know that "I Hear A Symphony" was the bigger hit, but I think this is the better song. This is one of my favourite songs from The Supremes 🥰
I could totally see someone like Florence Welch or Rihanna covering this and turning it into a depressing dance anthem (a la Dancing On My Own) produced by Calvin Harris
