I was actually going to create a topic for "Candy Man," but I realized there's not even a topic for "In My House" and I was shocked. The Mary Jane Girls were protegees of Rick James. Although they scored a few club hits from their first album and an R&B classic, their sophomore album gave them their sole crossover smash. "All Night Long" is actually probably my favorite Mary Jane Girls song though. It usually gets even more airplay at radio now than "In My House" does. It's a great example of song that had crossover potential at the time but doesn't really have the widespread appeal to still be all over radio today whereas "All Night Long" is a quiet storm staple. Teena Marie experienced something similar with "Lovergirl" which usually isn't even in her top five most played songs on a weekly basis. The Mary Jane Girls followed this up with another freebie Top 10 R&B hit, "Wild & Crazy Love," which doesn't get played on the radio at all anymore.
Hot 100: #7 R&B/Hip-Hop: #3 Club Play: #1

Love this song! 80's classic. This, "All Night Long" and "Boys" are my favorite songs by them.

This really has that Rick James sound to it. Very well-produced song IMO.

I love this song... I remember seeing the video on Channel 69 in Gainesville, and my sister's boyfriend made fun of me saying that I was in love with them. I dunno... they all looked kinda skanky in the video (to me).

Around this time in 1983 I recieved their debut album for Christmas on cassette because I liked "All Night Long" so much. You know when I go the cassette I enjoyed just about every last song on there. Now back then I would always fantasize about all of them being my girlfriend. This song "In My House" was OK, but I bought the vinyl single anyway knowning I had a limited amount of allowance money.

Pajama jam! One of my favorite R&B songs of the 80s.

Great track. And it annoyed Tipper Gore, so it's all the more better. :kii:

Heard this track as an 80s flashback on V103, defunct 103.5 Jammin' Oldies, defunct 80s channel WXXY 103.1 when I was younger. I also remember seeing the music video on BET on a special of showcasing 80s music videos. My favorite track from this group and one of the best Rick James-produced songs.
