One hit wonder-- but I think this disco hit is one of the best beats ever. How you can listen to it and not wanna dance, I'll never understand. Someone needs to sample this, the beat could be crazy hot. And as for stats, it was pretty much #1 across the board, "Black Singles" and "Pop Singles" (R&B and Hot 100) as well as Dance of course.

The Rebirth Experience says:
So do I. Difference is that I used to have to play it. It would pack the floor. No accounting for taste, as they say.
Mercifully, I've been spared a re-hearing. Hadn't even thought of the song since those days, until now that is. I'm surprised you or anyone else your age has ever heard it. I'd have thought this was forgotten by everyone.

I do love this song, and have never been much of a dancer. I agree this should be sampled. It clocks in at around 130 BPM I think, which is the speed of most dance tracks today. But as a pop/hip hop/urban track, it's gotta be slowed down to about 105-110, which is asking a lot. And 105 is pretty uptempo for an urban track. But it is doable. If I can find a way to make it work, I will give you a song writing credit. But I am still trying to figure out how to make "Dancer" by Gino Soccio accessible.

Actually I think pretty much everyone has heard it. At least the "You can ring my beeee-eee-eeel, ring my bell!" part. Why do you all hate it?! It's not even cheesy. It's hot hot hot hot.

I'm glad you're home Well, did you really miss me? I guess you did by the look in your eye (look in your eye, look in your eye) Well lay back and relax while I put away the dishes Then you and me can rock a bell
You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell
The night is young and full of possibilities Well come on and let yourself be free My love for you, so long I've been savin' Tonight was made for me and you ----------
The only cheesy line is "while I put away the dishes". "ring my bell" isn't cheesy, it's just another way of saying get it on. i don't feel a song that says "yeah!" fifty thousand times is better.

Bob asks:
Because it's too slick, too over-produced. It represents all the bad things about disco. Not to mention the fact that that voice was like fingernails on a chalkboard, at least to me. The repeated bell-ringing is annoying, too.
I am surprised to see that so many young people know the tune. As I said before, I thought it was long forgotten by everyone. Does it get any airplay on mainstream pop oldies stations, or just on urban oldies?
This does give me an idea for another thread, though. It might be interesting to see what you folks think of old disco tunes in general since most of you didn't grow up in those days. I'll give it an obvious title; please give me your thoughts there.

I remember my mom, my sis and I driving up to New England in the summer of '79 when this song was big... there were major gas shortages that year, and one of the radio stations on the way up had made their own parody song about the shortages using the music from "Ring My Bell"... I wish I could remember the lyrics they did.

Classic. A neighbor of my Grandma used to play this EVERY SINGLE MORNING. He almost made us stop liking it, but I love it. The beat is FIRE!! Somebody should sample this and let the Neptunes produce it.

I wanted Mariah Carey to remake this song.
i love it. It ranks right up there with "vogue" for the most gay song to dance to!

It ranks right up there with "vogue" for the most gay song to dance to! You left out "Y.M.C.A.", "We Are Family" and "It's Raining Men".
