One of my favorite dance songs of the 80's. Absolutely love that heavy synth line. Peaked at #31 on the pop chart and #2 on the R&B chart.

The Gap Band were a one-hit wonder on the pop charts with this song but had multiple R&B hits in the late 70s & 80s. Strangely, I never heard this song as an 80s old school cut on the urban stations in my market (WGCI and V103), though I heard many of their R&B hits on those stations. Instead I heard it on Hot AC 101.9 the Mix during their 80s at 8 retro hour and this song was one of the few R&B crossovers I recall hearing on that station. I also remember hearing the 12 inch version that starts off with a siren on a weekday flashback mix on B96 around 1996. While this is a great song, there are several from the Gap Band that I like even better (i.e. "Outstanding", "Early in the Morning", "Humpin'", "Burn Rubber on Me", and "Oops Upside Your Head"). music video www.youtube.com/watch?v=17lkdqoLt44album version www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVWERU_xY6I12 inch version www.youtube.com/watch?v=-s3scfw7DTc

40 years ago this week, You Dropped A Bomb On Me debuted at #85 on the August 14, 1982 Billboard Hot 100.

my favorite by them . after the group broke up lead singer Charlie Wilson had a somewhat successful solo career .last night after a few appearances on The Masked Singer as an ugly sweater he was voted off. he perfoprmed a bit of this after he was revealed.
