I think I did a thread for this in R&R's boards half a year or so ago, and was shutout with a nice fat zero replies. And I am really, really surprised; this is about as accessible musically as I will ever get, at least on these boards, and thought I had created a potential great thread.
Just a perfect pop rock song, for those not in the know, Outfield vocalist Tony Lewis (I think is name) sounds like Colin Hay (I think thats his name) from Aussie act, Men At Work. The Outfield were a 3 piece British trio that paired down to a duo 2 albums later I think, forget name of album, hold on, pulling it out now, ok sorry for delay, "Diamond Days" is name of album. They were let go from Columbia after followup to "Play Deep" flopped. Forget name of that album. DD had a totally super track on it, which did nada in NYC called "For You" but still made top 20 pop I think.
As for "Your Love," cannot believe more people aren't believers of this song. Along the lines, and certainly less pretentious than Bon Jovi, and hook wise, as smart as anything Bryan Adams has done (this is a Bryan Adams wannabe) the album itself is almost on a pop rock par with Adam's "Cuts Like A Knife" and "Reckless" albums. Great, super, smart pop rock.
Highlights from "Play Deep" to me include followup hits "Say It Isn't So" and "Everytime You Cry" as well as album (and non-radio tracik) "Nervous Alibi." ('Cheri (or maybe sherry) where you been since 9 this morning" give me all the names that saw u there.") And, 'Cheri, whats the game u think ur playin, dont u know I hate those clothes u wear? For I've seen men undress you, and with their eyes caress u, another nervous alibi." Yep, I've only been there 19,783 times.
Any other comments or feedback?

Great song by an underrated group. My favorite song by them remains their final American hit, "Closer To Me" (should've been a bigger hit than it was).

Good song. I prefer "EVerytime You Cry" to this one however.
I wouldn't put them in Adams' league, but all of the songs I've heard from them are decent.

Yeah Aaron, I agree, I really thought "Closer To Me" was a great song too, peaked at #4 on my chart I think. On that album was another good pop rocker, called "Winning It All", which was ruined for me when NBC used it to showcase the Chicago Bulls championshio run one year.
If you're unfamiliar with "For You" Aaron, I'll send u mp3 next time i find u online if u want. a slight change of pace from their other stuff but great pop nontheless.

I think "Winning It All" was also used during the '92 Summer Olympics (also on NBC, big shock). I do have "For You"... made top 10 on my personal chart back then, nice breezy song. :)

Very good song. I think I liked most of what I heard from them, but almost never hear any of them except this one once in awhile.

Good mid-80s pop/rock tune. It has started to get a little overplayed, but I'm not annoyed by it. My favorite from the Outfield is 1989's "Voices of Babylon".

Highlights from "Play Deep" to me include followup hits "Say It Isn't So" and "Everytime You Cry" I've never even heard "Say It Isn't So" and didn't know they released anything except "Your Love", "All The Love In The World" and "Everytime You Cry", the latter of which I never liked at all. The repetitive guitar riff at the beginning, and the chords that went along with it throughout the entire song annoyed the hell out of me. Thankfully, the song didn't do well and I only heard it a few times on the radio (Chicago's WYTZ). "Your Love" was a pretty good song, but I liked the aforementioned "All The Love In The World" best.

Reminds me of a girl in college I knew named Geneva. She had commented on this song once so I never forgot that. Anyway, good song. :)

Your Love got to #6 on the Hot 100 in 1986 and was the British trio only top ten pop hit

Reminds me of going to "80s night" at the student bar in college. It gets played every single Wednesday.

I like this song, but right now I'm more into some other Outfield songs. I'd say my favorites are "Voices of Babylon", "For You", and "Everytime You Cry" (verses are a little bland, but I love the harmonized chorus). I also like "Since You've Been Gone", "All The Love", and "Closer To Me".

I really liked this song. Wild 94.9 used to play a breaks version of this by DJ X in their mixshows. The rock elements and the breaks elements really worked together.

Looooooove this. Such a classic. This is Gordon Beckham's (player for the White Sox) walk-up song, and I was at the game last night and immediately downloaded it following the game lol.

I saw them in concert about 10 years back, they still had it. great band, lots of good songs. Tony Lewis had a really distinctive voice. RIP

So sad to hear about Tony's passing. My oldest brother had the "Play Deep" album and we would listen to it all the time in '86.

Solid mid-80s pop/rock song though it does get overplayed on classic hit type stations. Also, I remember this song being sampled by DJ X in the 2000 track "Use Ur Luv" that I sometimes heard on the weekend dance mixes on B96 back then. www.youtube.com/watch?v=soJ3mitIv3g&
