Her second hit, which I didn't like as much as "Vision of Love." I'm surprised I don't hear it more often on AC stations.

^That was thanks to the fact that "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice was no longer being pressed as a single and its points were fueled exclusively by airplay. As a result, it spent an extra week on top of the R&R chart and "Love Takes Time" spent two weeks up there. But the song fell rather slow; by the time it fell off the chart, it had spent 19 weeks on the chart.
This would probably be my favorite Mariah Carey song to date. The song kicked off Casey's Hot 20's "Biggest #1 Hits Of The 90s - So Far" and was one of nine Mariah songs on the chart (the only one that didn't register on that was "Make It Happen").

Couldn't stand it at first. I warmed up to it in later years.

At first I thought this song was boring, but it really grew on me. It's beautiful and has stood the test of time. However, I would not rate this as one of my favorite Mariah songs.

I heart this ballad. It has a timeless feel and the vocals are, of course, stunning.
It's one of Mariah's most forgotten hits though, both by Mariah herself and her fanbase.

I like it, but it's my least favorite single from her debut.
This song was recorded after the initial pressings of album artwork had already begun. While all copies of the album include the track, early pressings of the back cover of the album do not include an 11th song on the tracklist (that track being "Love Takes Time"). This was also the first song Mariah wrote with Walter Afanasieff, the beginning of a songwriting partnership that would dominate her next few albums.

I love it, and hopes Mimi drags it out of the closet one day for one of her concerts.
Still don't know why she has not performed it- I know it's from the debut and she doesn't love that whole period, but it's thematically similar to many of the ballads that came after it. If it's the sound, she can change it up some if she wants.
BTW- at last check (which, granted, was a couple years back), this received decent play on Smooth Jazz stations (which comprised the bulk of its total spins).
I also want "Someday" to make a return engagement.

I wish AC stations would cool it a bit on Hero and Always Be My Baby (sorry), and spin this, I Don't Wanna Cry, Can't Let Go etc...but I know that they don't touch those anymore.

Pretty standard ballad fare of the time. It's no Vision of Love.

I have the cd case without Love Takes Time on it. I found it a few years ago in a used cd store. Hopefully it'll be worth something someday.

I like it, but not as much as "Vision Of Love" or "I Don't Wanna Cry" as far as her ballads from her debut go.

This is actually my favorite single from her debut album. It's very of its time, but it's extremely well constructed and sung.

This is one of my favorite performances from her ever.
The sheer power she had for her first two albums is insane.

My favorite live performance of this song is from the showcase @ Tattoo Club. Some of the runs she did! :'(
She's never not nailed it though.

One of Mariah's best, the vocal performance is just sublime. It triumphs VOL & IDWC for me, honestly.
