I saw Everclear in concert last night (AWESOME, btw) and they finished it off by playing a cover of this song. They had a bunch of girls come up from the audience and dance along to it.
Just reminded me what a great song it is. I couldn't remember what is was when they were playing it lol, but I came home and downloaded it right away

This reminds me of the episode of Family Guy, "The Long Road to Rhode Island," or whatever it was called, where Brian goes down to Florida to pick up Stewie, who's visiting Lois' parents. They miss their flight because Brian gets drunk at the airport, so they have to get home by whatever means necessary.
Anyway, in the motel room they're staying in that night, while Brian's passed out, Stewie tries to call home, but can't remember the number. So he dials 867-5309, and when that's not it, he shouts, "Damn you, Tommy Tutone!"
Then he starts dialing more numbers: "111-1111...Damn! 111-1112...Damn! 111-1113..."

This was one of those songs that induced many nuisance calls throughout the country back in 1982. People would call "867-5309" and ask for Jenny.
A friend of mine knows someone who had that number and, yes, they had that prank phone call. When the caller asked if Jenny was there, the guy said, "Yeah, this is her father, Officer Nelson from the Kansas State Police." The caller hung up right away.
Of course, the guy who got the phone call was also in the wrong, for he wasn't really a policeman and it's illegal to impersonate the police.

LOL, this is pure novelty, but enjoyable. I *think* I have this burned on a CD somewhere.
There's a new problem now - people are complaining that they're recieving phone calls due to Alicia Keys mentioning a number in her Diary song - and the callers actually ASK for Alicia. Some folks are just....! lol.

It was OK at the time but I've grown sick of it over the years.

This is one of those songs that appears on every 1980s collection. I like it, but it's a little cheesy.

Good song, but I think I would tire of it if I heard it often.

Man selling 867-5309 number on eBay Published: Feb. 2, 2009 at 11:38 AMOrder reprints | Feedback NEW YORK, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- A New York area disc jockey said he is selling his 867-5309 phone number on eBay because too many fans of the 1980s pop song, featuring the number, call daily.
Spencer Potter told The New York Times (NYSE:NYT) he initially thought 867-5309 would be the perfect contact number for his wedding and party business -- A Blast Entertainment -- when he requested it about five years ago. However, he has since changed his mind after seeing how many people call because they are curious to see who answers the phone at the number immortalized in Tommy Tutone's classic song, "867-5309/Jenny."
Potter told the Times he receives an average of 30 calls a day, and although it was fun for awhile, he is ready to pass the number on to someone else.
"Selling my D.J. company with the most famous phone number in HISTORY ... 867-5309," Potter said in his eBay listing.
He also noted that his 201 area-coded number is "one of the last remaining 867-5309 numbers in service" and said it can be transferred to anywhere in the United States.
The Times quoted Potter as saying he doesn't think the phone company will intercede since he is selling the business with the number included.
Potter told the newspaper he hopes the sale of the number will raise enough money for him to spend two months backpacking in Europe.
As of 11 a.m. Monday, 43 bids had been placed and the price was $5,101. The auction ends next week.

It's a good idea for me to give someone this phone number when I don't want to be bothered at all. haha

One of the best early 80s pop records despite the phone number novelty behind it.
